While ex-Sheriff Joe's attorney has said an appeal was going to be filed, I do not see where that has been accomplished yet.
Appeals for misdemeanor convictions would rarely seem to make national headlines. There's ample time to file one as no sentence has even been handed down as yet. If the sentence were to be "$100 and time served", it wouldn't really make that much sense to appeal when his pension is $65k, would it?

GREAT NEWS EVERYONE!

Great News everyone!

President Donald Trump, in the ultimate **** * to the Democratic Party, the Lunatic Left, and the former Obozo administration, has signed a pardon for former sheriff Joe Arpaio. The announcement should come shortly. I knew that all of you on this thread would want to know and celebrate with me that this travesty of justice was nullified.

Do you have a sourse for this announcement? All the news sources I'm aware of have nothing more than 'President Trump has hinted' or 'seriously considered' the possibility of a pardon.
  • 18 August, 2:53 PM CNN.Com "Trump retweets Fox News story on potential Arpaio pardon."
  • 22 August, 2:08 PM LA Times.com "No pardon for Arpaio tonight, White House says."
  • 22 August, 11:33 PM Vox.com "... President Donald Trump has all but promised to pardon former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. He just hasn’t done it yet..."
  • 23 August, 1:07 AM Politico.com "Trump signals Arpaio pardon coming."
  • 23 August, 9:13 AM CNN.Com "Trump hints at potential pardon for ex-Sheriff Joe Arpaio."

.... unless you have a citation saying otherwise.

The White House has prepared the paperwork for President Trump to pardon former sheriff Joe Arpaio when he makes the final decision to do so, CNN has learned.

One of the talking points is that Arpaio served his country for 50 years in the military, the Drug Enforcement Administration and as Arizona's Maricopa County sheriff, and that it is not appropriate to send him to prison for "enforcing the law" and "working to keep people safe."

oh wait, is CNN considered a fake newspeek entity? who cares as it states paperwork has been generated.

I might point out that there is a slight but crucial difference between 'prepared' and 'signed'.

I don't doubt that Trump may pardon Arpaio (for the very reasons you cite) and indeed, I hope he does if the sentence includes any jail time. But... it hasn't happened yet.

Fifty years tyrant Joe has been living off the taxpayers. Clearly in violating the rights of citizens he also violated his oath of office..
Need we forget that tyrant Joe imposed horrible living conditions on other human beings. Profiled folks based on the color of their skin, interrogated folks without probable cause, searched vehicles without PC the endless list of human rights and constitutional violations goes on and on..
Subjecting folks folks not yet convicted of any crime to harsh conditions, he put folks in cages out in the blazing sun, forced folks to say prayers, to salute the flag.. Saying prayers and saluting the flag is fine for some folks, however if you are forced under duress to pray and salute clearly something is morally wrong taking place.. Tyrant arrogant Joe thought he was above the law, he thought he could be judge, jury and executioner, A concept that our Founders vehemently opposed. Anyone that supports a pardon for tyrant Joe, supports crime and tyranny.

Some say, 'he was just doing his job", I say " the guards at the concentration camps, said, we were just doing our job"

Interesting how folks here detest restrictions on our 2nd amendment, qualified immunity, asset forfeiture, Terry v Ohio. And yet those same few folks
turn a blind eye and defend an ex public servant that violated the human rights of our fellow man..

When Joe Arpaio was a young man, he was a young cruel tyrant and in old age he did not change his ways.. He is the poster child for why the Founders enacted our Constitution.. Contempt of court is the very least of tyrant Joe's crimes and I suspect the creator will not be as charitable as the CIC,
Tyrants stick together, they protect their own!

GN, in my humble opinion tyrant Joe's pension should be lost, government criminals should not be supported by tax payers..
Also bear in mind the statute of limitations on title 42 @ 1983 litigations may still apply and tyrant Joe will not have the protection of government counsel, he would need fit the tab out of his own paucity savings for mounting a good defense.. Hopefully a few honorable civil rights attorney's will step up and sue petty tyrant Joe for the many violations he bestowed upon other human beings..

You think tyrant Joe would like wearing pink and seating in a steaming hot outdoor cage and having his dignity stripped away?

Just remember that a pardon means he was guilty.

A pardon is not a repudiation of the charges. Nor, is it a finding of innocence by the executive.

A pardon says, "OK, you did it. But, we're gonna forgive you for what you did."

Indeed guilty, however he escaped from his true crimes, those being, " violating another human being".. violating rights, stripping dignity from another human being. It is our duty to denounce such actions of our government and her agents, for if we fail to denounce than we support, and so in supporting we are in theory allowing the government to overrule or atrophy our very own conscience and make us an agent of their " injustice"
I shall not allow myself to be a government agent of injustice..

" No moral man can adjust to injustice" Henry David Thoreau--- From his great essay Resistance to Civil Government( Civil Disobedience)

We have a moral duty to denounce government injustice. Bear in mind "injustice" cannot be measured however it should be punished.

Citizen kind Sir, I know you enjoy reading, if you haven't already read Thoreau essay Resistance to Civil Government, Please do.. If you have, outstanding.

A defense for actions in office will probably be covered by the municipality's Officers and Directors insurance. Else no one might risk their future. I know that I am covered.

I suspect that Country Club Liberal Joe has never been responsible as an Officer or Director.

Nightmare kind Sir, I am perplexed at your constant referencing unto me in your many post.. One cannot help but notice your jaundiced feelings.

Your conjecture is indeed correct, I have never been an Officer or Director for any government agency however I did stay at a motel 6 one time:monkey

Nightmare, you really need to surrender the jealousy and envy you hold in your heart.. Such seismic weight is not healthy.

" Jealousy and envy are EMOTIONAL transformations of SHAME" Technically from the viewpoint of affect theory. ( Tomkins 2008).

Please be advised that over the years and even in present day, I have a handful of so-called Officers and Directors on my payroll!

" Envy blinds men and makes it impossible for them to think clearly" Malcolm X

Night, free yourself from the chains of envy and lighten your soiled heart.

G'day.

GN109-- I do indeed value some of your opinions and replies therefore what is your opinion on government servants receiving a tax-payer funded pension when said government agent committed a crime while employed by the people, in the case at bar the people of Arizona?

I look forward to your scholarly reply.

I always figured this was pretty common knowledge but.......

Crimes, especially misdemeanor crimes, committed after one has left federal service almost never impacts someone receiving the federal pension he/she qualified for. The rare exception is a crime codified in 5 U.S.C § 8312. One should no more lose their federal pension for a minor crime committed while no longer in federal employ than one should lose his/her Ford/GM/Apple pension for shoplifting an apple after one has left the employ of the above listed companies (as an example).

I am aware... Was not criminal Joe still employed when he failed to follow the court order? The case was adjudicated after he was out of office however his actions were in fact committed while still on the job.. Therefore again, what is your opinion of public servants that commit a crime while ON THE JOB, should they continue to receive a tax payer funded pension? Criminal Joe or any other public servant?

I'll wager a fella convicted of a bogus felony gun law would like a full pardon. Better than a commutation of sentence me thinks.

Christie did pardon people charged with gun crimes in NJ. Though I don't like CC most gun owners applauded it, but I would bet the liberals of NJ cried, and threw there usual temper tantrums.

Sheriff Arpaio was convicted of a misdemeanor crime committed while in the employ of the State of Arizona, which one may note is not the same as the United States of America. Minor crimes will not affect one's pension or retirement, nor should they.
