It looks like this took on a life of its own here!!
Anywho, as I replied earlier, the store manager, Cliff, was apolegetic to me and said he would make sure his staff is familiar with their policies and state laws.
For those who said I should never disarm and that I was in the wrong in doing so- let me put this in another light. HereI amshopping with my 2 year old daughter. I was asked to disarm as it was"store policy". Not wanting to risk the MWAG call to the police, with possible detention and worst of all having my daughter hauled off by child protective services because for some stupid reason they decide to haul me off in cuffs (this IS the Madison area after all...), I complied and left. I knew that the best place to take this battle was to the top.
I did give the salesman a little bit of a hard time and he just kept saying it wasn't his rule. From the tone of my conversation with Cliff, it sounded like he was going to be fairly heavy handed once he found out who it was (again, I didn't get the guys name - just a description and the time I was there).

It's not so much this took on a life as much as we are pissed that this keeps happening, and the management of these stores NEED TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE!
Cliff says it's OK, but his employee didn't know? Who trained the employee? Somebody failed to do the proper job, and you were made to suffer for it.
Another example: Middle management (WalMart) calls the police, they escort you out. Two months later, the manager calls you and says, "I am sorry, we don't know which of our employees called." That's BS! Do I need to make the open records request and bring the manager the tape? Why doesn't the manager get the copy, so he KNOWS who to send packing (no pun intended).
LEO is no different, every LEO in the state should be aware of the AG's memo, so should DISPATCH! So why was Yates cited, why was Frank run in, why have a half-dozen members reported LEO contacts in-store, parking lot, or near Walmarts?
There is NO EXCUSE for the comments you got at Gander, especially given their corporate policy.
I get the MWAG call issue, believe me, I wouldn't want to seperated from my kids either.
As to reporting it stolen, I don't think they kept the firearm, just had him unload it, so it wasn't stolen.
