How about a meet/greet and Zombie shoot (for giggles) on 24 Sept...Berlin Cons Club.

So?

That's in Chicago, one place I will NEVER go because they do not like my type there (I carry a gun).

If that is stopping one or two from coming to Berlin, so be it.

Whether or not the 29OCT event even happens depends on how much turnout there is for the 24th.

If we can't justify to the club board that we'll have a good crowd, there's no reason for them to OK us having exclusive use of the range (let alone the stand holders that have been discussed as permanent additions).

And I wouldn't blame Grant a bit if he decided not to volunteer to coordinate another fun shoot if the turnout is low again.

I'm still going to this event and what I bring is still going to be a surprise. ;)

Krysta and I will be at the range @ 10AM today to punch holes in paper if anyone feels the need. Need to get solid zero's and make sight corrections if need be. My KelTec PF9 is a bit off as well as my Glock 27. Put a KKM barrel on the latter and am trying to develop a good load with semi-wadcutters for punching clean holes :)

155gr semi-wadcutter at 15yds from shaky rest. Have pumped up the load now by 3/10th grain to test as I was getting some leading with these hard bullets (18 Bhn) and am hoping the increased charge will expand the base more for a better seal. 6.0/Univ Clays will get a test today from a rest.

Oh, man... what a long, fun day. (Why am I still awake!?!?)
Things went bang*, skills were learned & practiced, holes were punched, sights were adjusted (THANK YOU GRANT!!!).
* some went (((bang))) very quietly...
(Within the past week I've gotten to shoot both a suppressed pistol & an automatic rifle. Coolness.)

Discovered that I can make a 50-yd shot w/ a pistol from both a standing position & lying on my back.
Not terribly accurate yet, but on my first attempt (lying down) I put 3 of 5 in the upper chest of the BG.
Need to figure out how to adjust that position to account for... anatomical differences... between men & women. (It'd be nice to be able both to breathe & to see the sights/target at the same time.)

Coined a new term: the violent mob drill
(AKA the Mayfair drill, the Riverwest drill, the State Fair drill, the Chicago drill...):
Put up several targets (BGs) across the net, engage at close range while moving back & sideways, putting at least 2 holes in each one, preferably in the chest.

Oh yeah, that was fun. Nice to have the range to ourselves from 10AM to 4PM with the exception of one guy that shot for 15 minutes.

That is the "Supine" position and it is used by folks that shoot big bore silhouette.

Really depressed about that .22rf pistol. After 20 years it appears that it must finally get some maintenance. Keyholing bullets and zero accuracy are not high on my list of fun things.

Thanks for bringing the cardboard for the Zombie targets. Will paste them tomorrow if it does in fact rain...otherwise, 2 friends and I will be shooting most of the day.

Krysta was kind enough to acquire some cardboard for me, so the targets are now secured to the cardboard with paste. That will make them last infinitely longer.

The targets have scoring areas on the head and upper torso. Because we will shoot at 5, 10, 15, 20 & 25 yards...it is the shooters prerogative as to what they want to shoot at :) The head will score highest, but that is a tiny target for many people back at 25yds. So, do you take the lower value and a higher likelihood of scoring points...?

Oh, you changed this since we talked last.
Before you were thinking 3 shots @ each target @ 2 distances.
How many rounds are you expecting to count for the competition?
(Then how long will we stay & BS afterwards? Trying to get an idea of how much ammo to bring. Don't worry - won't be anywhere near "all of it"!)

Heck, at the longer distances I'd just run. Zombies don't move very fast, do they?

30 shots total. Still kind of weighing in my mind how to make it challenging, but not overly long-winded. May well split the course into 2 stages so that you fire 15 shots, take a breather, BS a little, then come back and fire the 2nd half. Have decided to make it the shooters prerogative at all distances, but the shots to the head are weighed heavier than body shots...so that folks go for what they feel confident that they can hit at whatever distance.

If you get back to 15yds and see that a head shot is iffy, then as you go back to 20 & 25yds you are wise to go for the bigger kill zone on the torso. A lower number of points for a torso hit is better than a miss at the head :)

Head shots...
are you going to count only the little boxes marked on the target,
or will those be higher points & any head shot outside of those gets lesser points?
'Cause they're head shots too, right?

If we're only counting little boxes, not sure I'll try for those at the longer distance.
But a head shot in general, yeah, sure, I can do that.

Krysta, the little boxes would be the high scoring area of the target. ANY hits from the top of the neck up will be the 2nd highest scoring. 3rd highest would be the circular kill zone on the torso and 4th highest would be a hit anywhere else. Scored 5-3-2-1 or a Maggie's Drawers. Back at 20 & 25 yds, some may be forced to shoot for the torso hit because a 2 or a 1 sure beats a Maggie's Drawers.
