I need more OCDO'ers riding behind me on the motorcycle haha. Im not hard to miss :) Just follow the black helicopters :tinfoil: ;)
I recently bought a Mosin Nagant 91/30. I was on my motorcycle. So i slapped the bayonet on the barrel (since it was loose (not in package) when i bought it), slung it on my back and took off :)

It was pretty fun. But, to stay on open carry topic... I open carry the AR pistol when i take my nice day cruises.

What do you ride?

Kind of off topic I know. I haven't been able to seeing as how I am Navy and can't exactly bring my gun on base. :cuss: My wife has been though. She went to Babies'r'us twice this week. The one next to the Lynnhaven mall that is connected to the Toys'r'us. Interesting enough, I was at the same store to get my kid a 3DS for Christmas and I was asked to put my gun in the car. Normally I would have just left and not returned, but at the time they had the best deal and I couldn't let it go. My wife didn't have a problem this week for some reason though. Maybe they just didn't want to ask a prego chick with a gun to leave, haha!

An interesting OC day

I OC-ed to Food Lion to pick up a few things and the cashier accidentally rang up the woman behind me's single item and placed it in my bag... As I was walking out of the store I was called back to fish out a box of feminie hygene products and had to go to customer service to get it refunded from me and purchased by her. The whole thing took about 5 minutes but there was not a mention of my FNP-45 on my hip. :) I asked the young woman which was more embarrasing, "this" or having them do a price check over the PA system but she just laughed and the female manager answered that they (women) buy these all the time so it wasn't embarrassing to them anymore. It's not every day that you have to fish your tampon's out of a strange mans shopping bag and have the manager trapse around the whole front of the store trying to figure out what to do, while holding your tampons at eye level! :)

I then went to Chipotle's for lunch and discovered that they do have hard taco's to my enjoyment. No issues. While walking to my car mpg9999 drove up and said hi! It is always nice to meet a fellow OC-er while out and about!

With all the above excitment and activity I was planning a nap but just found out my USP's have been finished at the gunsmiths so going to pick them up and shoot sometime later. I had a match trigger and some night sights put on the pair.

OC'd to McDonalds this morning, Food Lion at lunch time, and now headed out to Chen's Wok for dinner (they're always very OC friendly).

First that is not a pic of my gun but one similar.
This is what it looks like before mods:
DRACOMINIP.jpg

Well, you've inspired me -- mine is now on the way and already have it setup with a gunsmith to do some "pimp out" for me. So I may have a new favorite OC around VA BH (my Glock 10mm will be sad though). Neither of these is mine but this is what it will look like (including the finger stop in the second pic). I've heard that you practically need surgery to remove the smile from your face when you hit the range with a Draco.

You need to do something like this to your bike:

OC-ed to Mario's to pick up my guns and had a good conversation. Who would guess a gunsmith interested in guns?!?? ;-)

Did you go with the mini-draco or the normal 11" barrel version?

Nice rails in the picture, are they Troy Industries? I think there are rails that are made for the 11" Draco but you have to mod the ones to fit the 7.5" barrel.

I like the Magpul AFG2 but the above will work too. The hogue grip is a must too.

Just remember that you can NOT put a vertical grip on it without the BATFE special $200 permission slip!!! :-(

ETA: You can pretty much do everything yourself so you don't need a gunsmith unless you absolutely want it done right. They ship with a barrel nut welded on the threaded barrel so you can dremel that off or have the gunsmith do it for you. I like my sling too which is a Blackhawk. Here are a few links I found:

I didn't go with a railed dustcover since it added about $200 to the gun and this one was supposed to be fun not expensive. I expect that you will need a red dot for it since my iron sights sucked.

Very expensive mod of the mini draco http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z25fS1CgugQ

Be aware the first 100 rounds I put through it had several misfeeds/jams. After that it has run fine for me.

We took my youngest daughter and her boyfriend to dinner last night at Naro's of Japan. My Walther was partially covered by my vest, but later I took it off when the place warmed up. (they sure do burn a lot of alcohol for their stunts. If I were still a drinking man I'd probably have said "forget the volcano. Just squeeze that hooch into my drink here." Which partly explains why I'm not a drinking man anymore.) Anyway, nobody said anything about my firearm even tho' I was stitting strong side out.

It's the Mini Draco. From what I've read they only very recently became available and it sounds like they won't be available for long. I had a hard time tracking down someone who had one in stock (should have started with an obvious hint with your pic as they were the only dealer I found that actually has one in stock!).

Thanks for all the links as I've been looking at as many mods and parts for that as I can get my hands on. The rails that I'm going to use are actually Midwest Industries - they have them in black, brown and green and the fit to the Mini with no modification at all.

Yeah, I planned on using a gunsmith for a couple/few reasons. I've read about folks having some trouble with the grip (getting it tight enough), and thought that I'd not want to do the barrel nut thing myself either. And the same for adding a swivel point for a sling. But at the same time I'm wanting him to take a look at the gun in general and look for anything else -- the YouTube link you sent covers pretty much all on my mind from opening the front site to tinkering with the safety. I do probably want laser sights, but am going to have to ask the gunsmith about recommendations between Red Dot and LaserMax.

One thing that I haven't really seen is related to a nice OC holster. I like the sling for shooting but not sure that I want it "slinging" around during OC. But then if it's holstered, then you've got to deal with the sling if you need to bring it out.

It was nice meeting you too. I don't make it out to the OC dinners much so I have to rely on running into people randomly!

In the past few days I've OC'd to Wawa's, Five Guys, and Chick-Fil-A. One of the younger employees at Chick-Fil-A asked if I had a CHP. I explained the laws in VA to him. He told me his dad has a permit, he loves guns, and that he wants to become a cop. I gave him one of Ed's OC cards.

Well they finally came out with rails that fit so I may get a set myself. My mods work but aren't as pretty as the MI ones. I don't OC the AK pistol around town (yet) and figure it is my "crowd" control gun if things ever get out of hand. DJEEPER OC's his AR pistol from time to time and we joked about both OCing together to an OC dinner and what reaction the people at a restaurant would be. So I don't plan on trying to make/get any type of holster for it.

OC-ed to Plaza Azteca in Yorktown last night with my daughter then to IHOP this morning. No issues with the OC but I may need to start cooking again to be able to afford more "accessories" like those above. :)

New Guy here.

Hello Everyone.

Found this site googling for open carry info in Virginia, and this popped up, namly this thread, after reading a few things for a number of days, I decided to join. Im active duty US. Army, stationed on Ft. Story. I have been open carrying around the VB area. Done it a few times. It is some hassle getting off post. I lock my XD in the plastic case, then once off post, pull it out and set it in my center console of my truck. been to 7-11, (Pacific ave) Walmart (lynnhaven) Target (first colonial) all with no issues. Ive had a few long looks, but never been hassled.

I was rather disapointed in the fact the Lynnhaven Mall has signs posted banning weapons. Wasnt to sure about the rules on that ( was open carrying out with the wife and some friends) so I walked back out to my truck, locked it back in the case and hid it in my truck. (locked the truck as well)

just wanted to share my story real quick and say that Im glad I found this website.

now, to get my CCP.

Welcome and yes most malls around here ban guns or at least the OC of them. A few OCDO members have been escorted out of a mall so I try to give them as little business as I can. On the flip side of that is I have two teenage daughters so I can't totally ban going to the mall. :) Many stores/restaurants that are attached to the mall that have external entrances (their own entrances) don't ban carrying. At Patrick Henry mall I have OC-ed in Chipotle, Baileys, Dicks, JC Penney, Dilliards. I tend to prefer going to stores that are outside the mall for example, Justice, Claires and Aeropostle (a few of my daughters favorite stores) have stores in shopping centers elsewhere not in a mall.

Thank you for your service and especially if you are not from VA, read up on the laws and know your rights. Virginia Citizens Defense League is a great organization to join and get email alerts. They fight for our rights in the state government.
