hey all you OC'ers...im new to the site. just wanted to say thanks for all the info i got from here. OC'ed to day in the super busy chesapeake marketplace across from the mall..... 17th street, bed bath and beyond, best buy, target with no prob...even got a thumbs up from CPD that passed me strongside in the parking lot. I'm begining to also think that my OC is a lady getter!!!

Welcome aboard S13, glad to see you here.

Check out the meet n' greets in your area - see the stickied threads in the Virginia forum.

Also if you have not done so yet please consider VCDL membership, at least sign up for the free Va-Alerts.

OC is a sure way to let people know where you stand on freedom and responsibility - those can be positive attributes in the social scene.

there's one off of harbour view drive (inbetween hwy 664 extis 8 and 9)
and the other is off of south greenbrier pkwy.

i like the harbour view one better, as it seems newer and less cramped of a dining area.
and i like to sit along a wall at a booth, instead of in the middle of a room at a wobbly table.
no matter where i sit the food is good

Just don't go after church on Sunday. It's so loud you won't enjoy yourself. Well, unless you like clapping and yelling.

They're (further) expanding the Greenbrier one. They do have some seating along the walls (but still have several wobbly tables:lol:).

In Virginia Beach, it is permissible to carry a firearm unconcealed as long as there is less than 20 rounds?

If it has magazines that hold less than 20 rounds of centerfire ammunition you are ok. Another person asked about Keltec's PMR30 22magnum which holds 30 rounds but that is rimfire so it doesn't apply.

This law is often forgot about as I did when I got a threaded barrel for my gun but I have a CHP which voids the requirements.

http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+18.2-287.4

§ 18.2-287.4. Carrying loaded firearms in public areas prohibited; penalty.

It shall be unlawful for any person to carry a loaded (a) semi-automatic center-fire rifle or pistol that expels single or multiple projectiles by action of an explosion of a combustible material and is equipped at the time of the offense with a magazine that will hold more than 20 rounds of ammunition or designed by the manufacturer to accommodate a silencer or equipped with a folding stock or (b) shotgun with a magazine that will hold more than seven rounds of the longest ammunition for which it is chambered on or about his person on any public street, road, alley, sidewalk, public right-of-way, or in any public park or any other place of whatever nature that is open to the public in the Cities of Alexandria, Chesapeake, Fairfax, Falls Church, Newport News, Norfolk, Richmond, or Virginia Beach or in the Counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Henrico, Loudoun, or Prince William.

The provisions of this section shall not apply to law-enforcement officers, licensed security guards, military personnel in the performance of their lawful duties, or any person having a valid concealed handgun permit or to any person actually engaged in lawful hunting or lawful recreational shooting activities at an established shooting range or shooting contest. Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.
The exemptions set forth in § 18.2-308 shall apply, mutatis mutandis, to the provisions of this section.

This is just one advantage of having a CHP (even if you typically only OC), there are others out there too (for example - exemption from the gun free school zone 1,000 foot prohibition, and CC of a firearm while in a vehicle on school property to name a couple).:D

Another is that you get your name in another government controlled data base.:p

There isn't a 1000ft GFZ in VA.
&
Those without a permit can have a loaded firearm in a secure container inside their vehicle.
(under your shirt or in center console there's no difference)

Now, if you said "being armed while visiting your elected rep @ the GA building" I'd agree.
I just bring a gun bearer.

EDIT:
Just to stay somewhat on topic I did OC in NPN a few yrs ago. :)

I was cleaning out my truck in my driveway and just happened to have my Kimber.45 on my side and noticed a couple of individuals walking down the street looking into parked cars and talking on the phone. I casually went about my business and continued to clean but kept them in sight. As they approached my property and watched them look into my car that was parked in the street, I stood up and looked over at them and said with a nod "How's it going?" I guess I startled them because they jumped a little and they said "not much" and one of them looked my way and you should have seen the expression on his face. I noticed my neighbor was outside in his yard, he was carrying too, and the two individuals looked over at him and then back at me, pulled their pants up, and picked up the pace a little. I looked at my neighbor and said "What was that all about?" he shrugged his shoulders and said "Beats me". Some people.

Be careful there---you could have been charged with brandishing. After all, it is clear from your story that you really did "induce fear in the mind of another."

You can be charged with anything.

Still that's why this law needs to be cleaned up to include intent and he was neither holding nor touching his gun.

Didnt see you there! Did you drop by the gun counter? :)
No the first time I was there I was in the girls "bloomers" section since my daughter wanted some. She then left me there while she went (I assume to the gun section) to shop for my present that I couldn't see. :)The second time I went in and got a gift certificate. All the checkout people were oggling a baby one of the workers brought into the store to show off. I then quickly went onto my next store because I hate shopping (for anything other than guns that is) and typically hunt presents rather than shop for them. Once I have a present in mind I quickly acquire my target, bag it and dress it (with a bow) ;-) Women like to browse, men go in, kill the shirt and then bring it home as quickly as possible. (it gives me more time to post on OCDO too) :monkey

ETA: I forget do you work there or were you shopping too? If the former, exactly how many jobs do you have? I guess you have a wedding to pay for so more power to you!!!

I HAVE OFFICIALLY JOINED YOUR RANKS!!

Yesterday I finally got my XDM-45 compact that I have been lusting over ever since I found out that they exist. I didn't have time to go shooting at the time I got it as I had been calling all over Norfolk to find one. I did however scoop up a Serpa holster and a box of Critical Defense just so I could start carrying. So today I finally took it for a test drive and it shoots like a dream, the trigger is crisp and feels great in the holster. I have so far been to two 7-11s, had coffee at Bean There Cafe in Norfolk and gone for a walk around the Downtown area. Nobody has said anything yet, even when I went into Buffalo Wild Wings (notoriously anti) to pick up a to-go order. Feels good ;). Next thing to get is a few more 9-round flush mags but I am having trouble finding them, I know there new but any thoughts?

Congratulations - well done!

On the mags, I'd look online and compare prices. Also you can contact Springfield direct.
