Go to Iron & Glass with a COPY of their letter in hand, close your account(s) and tell them why both verbally and in writing, be much more polite than they were with you.

Go to a competing bank, with cash/cheque and copy of I & G's letter in hand, tell them you would like to open an account(s), show them the cash and the letter and explain why you are changing banks. Repeat as required until you find a place that wants your buisiness.

Send a full report to the BBB, local banking organisation, and local newspapers.

I was in the bank getting a Money Order like I do every month for rent. When I got to the teller we were shooting the shit while she printed the check. She made a comment (cant remember verbatim) that I didn't have my gun "like I usually do." I said "well last time I went to thr bank wearing my pistol, they asked me not to anymore..." she said "why? not like you can hurt us back here..." then tapped on the 2" thick bullet proof glass :D

I looked at the the offices behind me used for setting up new accounts... those were also surrounded.

If that is typical in banks around there I would take that as a sign to move to a new town. I wouldn't want to live in a place that either needs, or is so paranoid as to worry about needing that level of protection daily.

But we carry guns daily.

Not because we think we'll need them, but as a precaution.

I'd much rather have a teller behind bulletproof glass than ensure each teller is comfortable with a handgun, competent, and of sufficient judgment to know when it's needed. It's much easier to hire someone to handle money, using associated rules, than it is to hire someone to handle money AND exercise judgment with that gun.

Not saying it's actually going to protect them, but better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it, eh?

I guess that's not the proper place to point out the inadequacies of most "bullet-proof" glass...

I've always been wary of carrying a firearm anywhere near a bank, whether or not legal, gun+bank seemed like it could equal trouble quickly by someone over-reacting... but after readign this thread, i MAY (big may) test the waters in the future, but i think i may wait untill i get my LTCF.

+1 on him being full of (poo).

I was carrying in Bank of America when I went to deposit my last paycheck (so I could go home and transfer it to my USAA account).

I was OCing while I took my Jeep's starter off in their parking lot 20 minutes later, and when I was putting the new one on 30 minutes after that.

Y'know, since it decided to go out on me right then. :D

So, now, I wonder if it's illegal to carry Federal ammunition in one's handgun... ya know, federal law and everything...

If it WERE a "federal" building, you wouldn't be allowed to carry there!

Well, I wrote Senator Warner from Virginia and his office pretty much ducked the issue when I asked them about this.

The whole 'other lawful purpose' section of USC 18, 1, 44, SS940 (D) (3) has yet to be challenged by anyone - there's no case law to define what that means and the Justice Department is pretty damn shy in admitting that self-defense is a 'lawful purpose'.

I'm not willing to put my ass in a sling and lose my job over this but I think it's something that someone with more time and money than I have needs to tackle.

Well, for starters, go into a Federal facility in Virginia where this notice is posted - and then get arrested under the statute. The issue isn't that the police or the SO in the facility won't have any other choice but to arrest you since they aren't lawyers and it would be up to the Federal Prosecutor to determine whether or not to prosecute you under the section.

Then you'd have to cough up the cash for the bond, lawyer, and be ready to fight it all the way to SCOTUS since the code has never been challenged.

In the event they didn't prosecute, you're going to spend $$ getting the arrest record expunged, making sure you don't lose your CCP, and don't have a permanent record of being arrested for a felony (which the violation is under Federal Law) - not to mention trying to get your weapon back from the clutches of the ATF.

Screw that man, just use USAA's "Deposit at Home." You just need a scanner and you're good to go. It's the greatest thing since sliced bread.

I've written to Senator Warner many times about gun issues, and ducking the issue is his specialty. He does his best tomake it difficult for anyone to find out what side of any issue he's on. He's a typical polititian, trying to please all the people all the time by saying what he thinks they want to hear. Bah!! He disgusts me.

They almost always respond with statndardized form letters:

"Dear <insert constituent name>, thank you for your concern about <whatever issue>. Know that the <senator/rep> shares your concerns and values your input. He/she will give your thoughts consideration if and when said issue comes to a vote next." blah blah...

They almost never commit to a stand, unless they've already put it on their platform and won with it. I've gotten written responses from various politicians, and our current governor is the only one to date who has actually dictated an unrehearsed response. Go, Ted.

I agree. When I lived in Virginia, I had that same thought of him, he was always beating around the bush when you asked him direct questions, particularly about gun issues. He actually voted to re-authorize the AWB in 2004, which was mind-boggling to me.

Judging from their past, I suspect that Jim Gilmore orMark Warner will be more forthcoming on their stances on guns issues.

At least he answers. Senator Webb doesn't bother.

Cornbread? :?

Is Las Vegas that dangerous? Lots of bank robberies? If so I wasn't aware of that and explains the need.
