glocks are ugly. i carry one everyday. but looks of a gun isnt going to save your life.

lol, I'd rather die looking good, than live looking bad. Thats just my sad attempt at humor but there is some truth to it. To be honest, I doubt a gun of any kind will ever save my life. The only real serious threats to me are police, sheriffs, and similar. So using any such device for protection against those kind of threats would have the oppisite effect of saving my life.

That's a sad statement. Let's hope you're right and no unbadged bad guys/gals want to hurt you. Something tells me that you may be wrong. I assume everyone I meet wants to hurt me even though I am handsome, ;)well spoken, and yes - carry multiple "ugly" sidearms. Only by their actions or lack there of, do they earn my trust.

Remember many women who are assulted know (in some way - co-worker / gas station clerk / neighbor etc ) their attackers. As those with evil in their souls often covet what they see.

There was my nefues back in 2008 who attacked me in my own home, can't be shooting them. As I mentioned, the police, can't be shooting them, not an option. Most everyone else that I have encountered have been nice and kind to me, there are a few, very few who dislike me, but they know they can just call the police to do their dirty work for them. By now, even my nefues have learned that they can call the police and have me arrested any time they feel like it. They have no problem with lying.

if thats your mindset then you have already lost. .

ok, I guess I've lost then, Thing about me, even if I believed that I would or could ever be the target of a mugging, rape, or other kind of attack by a non police person, defending myself in such a way, with a gun, would have a similar effect to my life as if I defended myself against a cop. I would be painted in the wrong, and if I survived being captured, I could look forward to the rest of my life in prison.

If or not your typical "bad guy" knows this or not, a crime against me, is not a crime at all. In fact, it's encouraged by police and sheriff departments in my area. No one will be going to jail, except maybe me, if I survive the attack.

People believe what they see on TV, in the mainstream news, what they read on a police report, To many, these things can't be wrong, It don't matter what the truth is, or what kind of person I really am, I will be seen as a lowlife criminal. I'm the one those suspect of being up to no good. Theres no way, under any cercumstance, I could ever justify using a gun on another person. I can't even justify to many people OCing. A gun for self defence/protection is not for me.

I know glocks are popular with many, just not for me, If I was into autos at all, or I should say semi autos, That Beretta 92f would be on my wish list.

On topic this thread kind of like asking what is better a Chevy or Ford? Everyone will have an opinion where the "truth" lies who knows? Something tells me this thread may go on forever.... ???

Being a admin at your own site, this may save you from the grammar nazi's there, it surely will help you here.

I like the grammar nazis, Sometimes I spell words wrong on purpose to get them going. You know the sad part?, I was one of the top students in my English class in middle school. Far as AmericaChat goes, or even OhioOpenCarry, I'll take even the grammar nazis, trolls, and other kinds of negitive active posting over no activity there at all. I don't know if everyone just can't be dragged off Facebook to post there or what. The place is prettymuch dead. Every so often, I have to create a new ID and post just to see if the sign up process is working. Took me a long time to figure out the settings to allow new member signups without approval. Theres a email verification and a code word to enter, but that should be about it.

Give it time, I honestly spend too much time on this site. So I have not been looking to extend my time on the internet anymore than I already have. I have pretty much stopped posting on the other site that I post on. But some of the younger dudes and dudettes must have more energy than I do, to multi task sites.

Agree with you

I have never shot or owned a Glock or Beretta. From what I've seen of them, I'd have to choose Beretta. Only because I'm kinda big on looks, and at the risk of not making very many friends saying this, Glocks are ugly. They should be called blocks because thats what they look like, or bricks. I'm not a big fan of a 9mm, or autos, I'm a revolver gal. But I'd consider getting a Beretta 92f on it's looks alone, and the 15 shot capicity would be a plus as well.

I like your comment. I personally agree that the Glock is a very ugly firearm and the Beretta is a sexy. I've owned both. Though besides looks theyre are both fine weapons that you could trust your life with.
Myself I'm kind of impartial to revolvers but there is one I would love to have and thats the .500 S&W.

I own a Glock 19. It is my EDC gun. Reasonably small, but not so small that I lose it in my average-sized hands. Reasonably comfortable for me to shoot regularly enough to be proficient. Top rack dishwasher safe, blah blah blah.

I also own a Beretta 92F. We all know that "a bullet doesn't go where you want it to, it goes where you aim it," but the 92 fits me so well, I feel that the bullet really does go where I want it to. Texas does not allow open carry (and now it looks like it won't happen until 2015), and the 92 was never intended to be a concealed gun. Therefore, the only time I carry my 92 is when I'm on a range or when I'm wearing a coat.

They're both 9mm x 15+1 capacity. I'm comfortable using the 9mm round for self-defense, with the caveat that no pistol-caliber round is really as effective as a rifle- or shotgun round.

I don't buy the argument that a manual safety causes problems; we have over a century of history that shows otherwise, and if I can teach three daughters to run a gas pedal, cluth pedal, gear shift, and steering wheel at the same time, a piddly little thumb safety ain't nothing. And has anybody ever wondered why people argue about whether a pistol should or should not have a safety, but nobody ever argues about whether a rifle or shotgun should or should not have a safety? I don't care either way; keep your booger-picker off the bang switch until you need it and you won't have any problems.

You don't have to justify your decision to me. They're both arguably great sidearms. The truly important concept is that you're taking an active role in your own survival by carrying a defensive sidearm. Thanks for that.

stay safe - phil

lol, I will never understand why anyone would want anything more powerfull than a 357 magnum. My dad has that 500 S&W but he won't shoot it. It's some kind of limited edition with engravings, afraid he will hurt the value. I like my pair of S&W model 36s. Still looking for the perfect holsters. I wanted to get real good at shooting with both hands, but I'm afraid to use up what little ammo I have. Don't know if stores are ever going to sell it again like they once did.

Probably not because it is the type of trigger that makes the difference, not the length of the gun. While a DA trigger is acceptable on a self-defense handgun, no one would buy a rifle like that.

Have you seen the Rossi Circuit Judge rifles and shotguns? They don't have safeties because they have the same trigger systems as a defensive revolving handgun.

Yea I have seen them, just me, but I wouldn't buy one, too many better more logical options for a rifle or a shotgun. Now I don't have anything against a rifle or shotgun without a safety, such as long guns with hammers.

This is a "to each their own" question obviously. I have fired both a Glock and a Beretta - the Gen4's feel much more ergonomic than Gen3 Glocks and I could probably get used to one. I can't hit the broad side of a barn with a Beretta :p -- I will stick to using my Springfield XD 45 or my 1911 (Kimber Pro Carry II)

Yep This^^^

PS I'll stick with my HP JHP 45 "custom pro OC superduper carry I" as it can do this at 7yrds all day long (typical pistol combat range / or closer) ;)
Note - like all 45's it is picky about hollow-points & likes WWB personal defense 230 JHP.

If the trigger pull is too much for you on the 92F, get the D Hammer Spring, the spring that normally comes with the 92D. It makes the double action pull much nicer in my opinion.

I like my Beretta 92 a lot.

As for the earlier poster saying the one at the range jams, my bet is that it is a worn out range rental and the magazine springs need replacement or it is using crummy aftermarket magazines. That's my guess.

Call me weird but I think Glocks look magnificent and Berettas are dog ugly.

I'd most definitely rather carry a Glock in any capacity - open, concealed, upside-down, underwater... etc.
