I'm going to be driving to MD this weekend, and as it happens, the trip takes me right past the Alexandria exits on 95/495...

Perhaps I need to stop at the Kingstowne WalMart and check on their ammo selection...

Let's see. Para Ordnance S-14.45 OC'd in a Serpa CQC? Check.

Extra mag in Serpa carrier? Check.

Enough cash for 2 boxes of ammo? Check.

Copy of VA OC flyer? Check.

VCDL Challenge coin in my pocket with spare change? Check.

Built-in video camera on my iPhone? Check (there's an app for that...).

Cost for a short side-trip and a possible opportunity for an educational encounter: Priceless... ;)

Actually, in a certain state I won't name (in the DC metro area, and which was named for a Queen who was NOT a virgin...), about 10 years ago, I was purchasing a new brass Zippo in a tobacco store in a mall, and they would not sell me Zippo fuel in the same transaction.

Sometimes funny things do happen. However, as with bad service at a restaurant, I think people are too quick to assume that because of the bad behavior or service of a single person that the entire establishment is flawed. This particular Walmart has never been a problem at all for me and I go there pretty often. No Walmart has ever been a problem for me. I've never received any sort of negative feedback while there and open carrying or purchasing ammo. They have the least expensive ammo out there.

Individual managers and even employees are "agents" of a business and set policy as regards to you, unless you can get a higher authority in that store, at that time to override it, you're stuck with it for then. Possibly resolved later, but not worth having an unpleasant discussion on the scene.

The image we project is more important than an false feeling of having the last word.

Wal-Mart needs to go on the unfriendly list period. They are killing our country with cheap imported junk, not tomention what they are doing to the work force. They are very unAmerican.
Like an above poster said, I too hear this all the time. I as much as anyone would like to see more quality products sold that weren't imported. I think we all would. Now that being said it's not like if I go to a local store I get something made in the USA. In fact about 95% of the time the local stores are selling the same brand and same product as Walmart usually at a large markup. So why should I pay sometimes 50-100% more for the exact same product? The local stores don't seem to care if it's imported or not either. So it's not like by avoiding Walmart I'm able to buy only stuff made in the USA. The only difference I see about Walmart is unlike many local stores they don't feel the need to screw everyone on the price and in turn offer reasonable prices to everyone as well as having a good variety of items. This is what brings them a ton of customers and makes them huge. I hope that most of the shops trying to price gouge people go out of business. Then more would be forced to be reasonable. As for the customer service aspect I've seen a few local places with great customer service but I can honestly say 80% or more of the ones I've deal with have been horrible. The staff is downright rude and there is just nothing positive about it. So why should I pay an over inflated price for rude customer service when I can go to Walmart and get it for a lot cheaper and while I may not get great customer service they usually aren't rude.

An example of the price thing is since we are on a gun forum I will use ammo. Our local Walmart sells WWB 9mm for $20.97. It's $42.99 at a local gun store. If I buy from Walmart I'm supporting more peoples jobs as they employ a lot more people than the local gun shop. So why should I pay more than double the price for the exact same item? Blazer Brass is $19.99 at a local gun shop. When Walmart had it last it was $10. Now I don't think they carry it anymore but they carry other similar brands like the Federal Champion that's still $9.97. Same thing goes for other stuff. Walmart has the slip on recoil pads for $19.97. At Dicks Sporting Goods a similar one in different packaging. Maybe different but similar and both Limbsavers was like $35 or something similar.

Walmart is the only place I see that still offers reasonable priced ammo locally. I don't see how they are anti gun when they are the only place not price gouging and letting people still be able to afford to shoot. Their guns are the same way. They are reasonably priced where as local gun shops think that you should buy a used half worn out gun from them for more than you can get a new one at Walmart.

Now I've had a negative OC experience at one Walmart with one employee. Corporate was friendly to deal with however. I've also open carried in other Walmarts and even gotten positive comments from employees. When any kind of store has that many employees someone is going to run into a bad apple sometime. It's just what happens when you have that many people working for you. You can't say the company is bad because a few of their employees are.

I have a small business as a locksmith, and because Walmart and other chain stores can buy in bulk they can buy direct from the manufacturer. I on the other hand must buy from a distributor.

Their price for locks etc. is about the same or very close to what I can buy them from my wholesale supplier. Therefore I have to charge more to cover my expenses. Am I trying to gouge my customers? No I'm just trying to make a profit.

That being said I'll be glad when the Walmart opens here on the shore in a couple of months. Hope they have a good sports department.

Great minds think alike!

The perp-walk from the gun counter to the front door while buying a 36-pack of MAGNUM's would be awesome.

Be sure to tip your hat at the ladies.

To keep your barrel clean, dry and free from obstructions?

Which Wal Mart was this? I still haven't OC'ed in the new one at the Mall. Never had any trouble at the one on Liberia.

This was the one attached to the mall. Its never been an issue for me there. I think Ive been to the one on Liberia once or twice. Its not on my usual route typically.

On a positive note, plenty of ammo at the mall Wal Mart.

So i tried again. I went in there a few days ago and was open carrying as usual. John was at the counter again and i made the same purchase. No questions asked and i walked out with my ammo in hand unescorted.......... I'm confused. Maybe he didn't notice this time or something? I think im just going to try to forget this happened now. If it happened again i was going to try to politely speak to the management about the policy. I guess i'll post if it happens again. I should be going to buy more ammo tommrow so we'll see how it goes again.

Honestly, can we really expect those fine, upstanding, intelligent people that Wal Mart HR clears even with suspect drug screens to be consistent? Hell, youre probably really lucky he was still employed.

My $0.02 from working within several Wal Marts.

oops wrong thread :D

not to waste this post,

OC'd at WalMart in Fair Lakes two days ago, bought some ammo. Very polite guy behind the counter said nothing about my firearm, and I walked out with my ammo purchase by myself. :)

Good advice. Take the considerate and effective road rather than getting allexcited and willing to dump on some poor minimum wage clerk trying their best.

After all, we all needWal-Mart.

BTW, GS, gotta take the opportunity to congratulate ya on the milestone.

Ok so i bought more ammo today and he (john) tried to escort me out again. I told him it wasnt for the weapon i was carrying and after about 5 minutes of persuasion he handed me the ammo that i already paid for. This is getting a bit annoying and im wondering why i'm the only one experiencing this.
