I'm x-law enforcement who doesn't qualify for anything either because of "retirement" laws. I'm now in Nevada...

I have a cc permit issued by Cattaraugus County, in NYS. I am sure the paper that I got with it, stating the rules, said that I can not carry out of the state or in NYC. Am I reading this right?

NY does not have reciprocity with any other state, as far as I know. Of course you can open carry it in OC states.

I forgot to mention. NYC does not recognize your NYS permit. Why should they? They know what is best for citizens. :banghead:

I just looked at my permit which like I said was issued in Cattaraugus County. It says that I have been granteda license to carry pistol.

It does not say concealed.:shock:so where does that leave me?

All NYS pistol permits are considered concealed carry permits as there is no open carry in this state. If your permit does not have "restricted to hunting/target only" or something similar typed or written on it, you have a unrestricted permit i.e. concealed carry so you can concealed carry except for designated areas where it's illegal like federal buildings, schools etc. Just be carful about"printing" and remember that every county enforces differently. ;)

Come on, neither party has been pro-gun, ever. They dance around the issues, to get more votes.

FYI, the PC Act can be waivered by the President, its in the actual act.

I personally left NY in 06 and moved to VA. I loved how beautiful NY was but WAY to many liberals, anti-gunners, too high taxes and to top it off I was from Jamestown, NY.... aka dead economy. The overwhelming reason I left NY, however, was the police. My personal encounters with them was nothing but negative. They always had the attitude that I was a criminal. They constantly would ask me questions like, "Why do you want a gun?", "What would you do with it?". I just felt as if in their minds I was already a criminal. Here in VA the LEOs Ive ran into have been very polite and in most cases encourage people to carry their firearms. I have run into a few bad apples but in most cases they know that they work for us. And best of all No handgun permits! :):celebrate

Hopefully in the next couple of years my parents will be leaving forever.

*note* In no way am I trying to bash people who love NY. It can be a great state, it just seems to me that liberty sailed away from NY along time ago.

I was a police officer 110 pct Queens and quit to make a better living and hated the policy Dinkins set up. I cannot get a full carry either only a target and on premises permit even though I was able to get a full carry in 34 states but NY.

One of my accounts was a retired NYC Captain 47th pct Bronx...After he retired 7 months later he wanted to get another revolver and Bloomberg administration turned him down saying they needed to do a complete back ground check.

It took almost 18 months for him to be approved for a snub nose 38.

Another highly decorated retireddetective was told to turn in his firearm because someone complained they saw it in a CO-OP and the police said it must be concealed 4 months later after an investigation the firearm was returned.

I voted for Bloomberg twice but never again as we need to take our rights back and he is for taking away our God given right for self defence.

Oneelderly gentleman in Harlem recently shot 2 out of 4 armed robbers they want to give him a long prison term because the shot gun was not registered and had a pistol grip thus is is a felony even though he did save at least 3 lives as the would be thiefs pistolwhiped a worker and fired off a few rounds

Do you need to stay there? Can you move? If you need (or want) to stay in New York State, there are some upstate counties that are a political world away from NYC and the neighboring suburban counties.

Some to consider: Dutchess, Ulster, Delaware.

Nearly fifteen years ago, the Suffolk County NY legislature voted to have all Suffolk County Pistol Licenses that are 'carry licenses' to be honored as unrestricted carry, as opposed to the sportsman's restrictions imposed by the police department. (To and from the range/hunting only, no self defense.)

To this day, the Suffolk PD is restricting carry licenses to 'sportsman' and enforcing that restriction.

Many PDs in New York State feel they are above the law, court rulings or the Second Amendment. I doubt the NYPD will respect any Supreme Court ruling that invalidates the Sullivan LAw, the same way they have no respect for LEOSA.
