That's kind of a loose loop hole to be sure. Just remember, NYS penal law 400.00 doesn't specifically state that the restriction is part of the law. Previous challenges resulted in the state supreme court to uphold the basic tenat that the issuer has the right to place "reasonable restrictions" upon the permit. According to the state police web site, if in violation of the restriction, you cannot be charged with a crime as you haven't violated 400.00 guidelines. You can however, be reported to your issuing authoritywho can then recind the permit if they are so inclinded.

My comment was directed at NYC not the state. Bloomberg just sees that anyone who has a gun (besides LEO) is up to no good. At the time during Giuliani's rule people thought it was bad but now looking back it wasn't so bad back then. Hopefully this rich A hole doesn't buy the election, even though he bought his option to run for a third term. :cuss:

The first doesn't protect itself, the second protects the first. This blog exists because when it comes down to it, the oppression of the government can go only so far before the citizens of the country take up arms and defend themselves. Now, you can have all the drum circles and peace parades you want, but when it comes down to it those are quickly dispersed under the use of arms. Now, ghandi did it without arms, but he was gaining rights he never had so he really didn't have an option. To protect rights that are god given you must utilize the tools god gives you.

It is amazing to sit back and read the situations different folks face in the several states. Having moved from zoo jersey to the Independent Republic, the dictatorial ways of the liberal north have happily been lost to me.
Last gun I bought was for my wife. It took less than 3 minutes to process the transaction, including paying for it. In SC I can carry concealed, in the glove box, fully loaded, etc. I will admit that SC does not yet allow open carry, but I have to prove to no one any need or otherwise to purchase and carry a firearm to use as I see fit.

And my most recent gun was bought by my sons as a Christmas present for me. My name's nowhere on the state's sales database. Can't carry in my car without a license, but I can open carry anywhere, even at our local town council meetings (and have done so) without fear of arrest.

One of these days New York will wake up, but it'll be long after I'm gone.

Hi everyone...just registered todaybecause i wanted to post some of my experiences on this subject.

I'm a NYCresident and Isent ina Purchase Authorization Request to add a handgun onto my existing license (Restricted - Residence Premise )back on 12/17/08.

I got my first gun back in 1994 and the story by jnxnycbrought me right back there! It was time consuming,expensive and of courseit wasa hassle.Anyway, itusually takes 45 days to receive an approval or denial in writing. I called three times to check my status after day 45 and was told each time thatthey were backlogged.I remained patient and optimistic. Besides, you can't fight 1 Police Plaza!

Today Ireceiveda letter dated 3/17/09 which states that I'vebeen approved to receive an official purchaseauthorization form!?!?!?!? :XI forgot about this part of the processor maybe it's a new time waster created since 1994.

The deal is that I've got toappear at1 PP with this letterand my existing license within 30 days so they can look into my soul or whatever before they give me an official form (PD-643-053).

They really do try to inconvenience you into changing your mind or into giving them any excuse to deny you of your request.

I expect to be there one minute after the "approved time to appear" begins and I am planning on spending quite some time there remaining very patient all the while.

Due to some of my business duties, I willask themaboutconverting my licence to unrestricted CCL but I don't expect to get very far on that one. (unlessI get the LT from jnxnycexperience who will stamp my licenseunrestricted...because I'm one of thegood guys!!! I would wait all day standing at full attention if that were ever to happen in orderto get that hard copy in my hand. I can dream, can't I?):idea::idea::idea:

Oh yeah I do belong to a "keyclub" pistol range with 24 hour access already but I'd obviously prefer to "earn" an unrestricted CCL from NYC.


Anyway, I look forward to some more red tapebut I will be as persistent as I need to be.

I live less than 4 miles from Ground Zero and thatis one reason that I'll NEVERLEAVE NYC.

I comply with all laws for better or worse inthis ridiculously liberal city.

I will honor those 3000 until death and specifically the 4 great people that I knew as friends. And all of our brave soldiers.

I worked all night on 9/13/01 at Fulton and Liberty looking for them as a volunteer responder. Even the search dogs that night seemed stunned and sad as we worked in a teeming deluge of rain. We found no one.

President Bush stood on the same rubble the next morning. I'm grumpy. :X

Here comes the fun part. I want that CCW. I plan on starting a precious metals dealer(a second business if that matters)I am going to be carry large sums of cash and gold bullion on my person. No storefront. Face to face in homes or other places of biz.

I dont mean to necro-quote. But this thread answered some , but not all my questions.

How much cash do I need to be carrying to "qualify"? What is the sheriff going to ask me for? bills of reciepts, does he want to see a wad of bills...etc. Do I need to prove that I have been a dealer for a certain amount of time..etc

Any other concerns I shouldaddress before moving forward? I would like to get it right the first time.

It seems to me based on observation that NY's gun owner base needs a lot more organization, motivation, and mobilization. Does NYSRPA have local chapters and meetings? I see no big website that acts as a message board for NY'ers like Calguns.net does for California.

Leabo....I to am a former LEO and originally hada restricted NY State pistol permit. I wrote a letter to the judge, listing all the firearms training I had in eleven years,( State Police, FBI, Basic Academy.etc..), he removed the restrictions. Of course I live way up in the boonies of Washington County on the Vermont border. Big difference then New York City

I grew up in Westchester but left 20+ years ago. When it comes to freedom, I hardly recognize New York as being part of America any more.

In Washington State -- one of the most loony leftist places in the country -- it takes exactly one trip to the local police station to get fingerprinted and apply for a CCW permit. If you are a law-abiding citizen, thirty days later, the permit arrives in the mail. They are prohibited by law from refusing to issue it.

At that point you can walk into any of the several gun shops nearby (even in Seattle and its suburbs, which are ground zero for the lunacy I mentioned above), buy one (or more!) handguns of your choice, and take them home that very instant. Loaded, in your vehicle, on your person, whatever. One of the ones I bought recently came in a factory case emblazoned with a sticker proclaiming "NOT LEGAL IN CALIFORNIA" -- which I take as a badge of honor.

Sorry to rub it in... I just don't think I could ever live back there and I am sorry for you New Yorkers.

Well, contact the Sheriffs Office, or if you live outside of the five western towns (Police District)the SCPD Pistol Licensing Bureau for details. I'm gona take a wild guess here, but I doubt your gona get a CCW.

First post....nice to be here...as far as I know, there are TWO kinds of CWP in NY, Concealed and Premise...this is according to the NYSP. The restrictions are put there by judges...for whatever reason. Target restriction? Keep a paper target folded in your wallet and a bag with some ammo, eyes and ears in the trunk....silly but....
