I think that you may want to inform other UK citizens about other European countries that allow its citizens to own firearms.
There seems to be some animosity in the mind of many Brits about America and its gun culture.
Switzerland, Finland, Czechoslovakia, Italy and even France currently allows its citizens to own handguns AND military rifles like we have here in the USA.
And as you may know, the violent crime rate against law abiding citizens is MUCH lower than the UK.
I would also drive the point that Police are NOT responsible for a citizens safety. The primary job of Police is enforcing laws, not protecting the civilian population. Now, if a cop saw a person getting mugged or beaten out in public, yes they would stop. But thats extremely rare for an officer to be right at the scene when a violent attack is happening. Many police departments on the side of they're patrol cars have painted on "To Protect 7 Serve", but that is only a motto, not rule of law.
My roommate is actually from Wales and when I first moved in , he acted as though my firearms were going to give him the plague.
After some respectful discussions and taking him shooting, his mind and attitude towards firearm ownership changed.
Unfortunately, the rabid British press has always been VERY negative abotu firearm ownership. Its time that they be educated and help accountable.
