This one is almost confusing. Probably on purpose. But the way i take it, i can not carry a loaded semi-auto hand gun in the listed citys, if it holds more than 20 rounds. No?

§ 18.2-287.4. Carrying loaded firearms in public areas prohibited; penalty.

It shall be unlawful for any person to carry a loaded (a) semi-automatic center-fire rifle or pistol that expels single or multiple projectiles by action of an explosion of a combustible material and is equipped at the time of the offense with a magazine that will hold more than 20 rounds of ammunition or designed by the manufacturer to accommodate a silencer or equipped with a folding stock or (b) shotgun with a magazine that will hold more than seven rounds of the longest ammunition for which it is chambered on or about his person on any public street, road, alley, sidewalk, public right-of-way, or in any public park or any other place of whatever nature that is open to the public in the Cities of Alexandria, Chesapeake, Fairfax, Falls Church, Newport News, Norfolk, Richmond, or Virginia Beach or in the Counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Henrico, Loudoun, or Prince William.

The provisions of this section shall not apply to law-enforcement officers, licensed security guards, military personnel in the performance of their lawful duties, or any person having a valid concealed handgun permit or to any person actually engaged in lawful hunting or lawful recreational shooting activities at an established shooting range or shooting contest. Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.
Unless you're one of these people.

So you could OC a rimfire (22LR) pistol that had 20+ rounds or if you meet one of the exemptions like a CHP you could OC any centerfire pistol with more than 20 round magazine. I would love to delete that section but it seems that the Delegates have too little time to correct bad law or are too busy introducing more bad bills. :-(

This section got me when I started OCing a Sig P220 with a threaded barrel. Since it could accomodate a suppressor I luckily had a CHP anyway but was unaware for a while. Stupid law! Explain to me how carrying a rifle with a folding stock is any worse than carrying a rifle without a folding stock.....

ETA: Been OCing around, ACT, Chili's, Abuelo's, Japan Samurai, Chipotle, 5 Guys. No issues.

I went to Walmart last night at the James City County Walmart (Lightfoot, if you know the area). I checked on their ammo stock just out of curiousity. Here is what I found:

2 boxes of Winchester .38 ammo
1 box of Remington UMC .357 ammo
No 9mm ammo
No .40 ammo
No .45 ammo

My goodness. Walmart used to have quite the surplus, but it has been a while since I have had the need to buy bullets.

And just in case anyone is wondering, I have been to Target, Food Lion, Farm Fresh, Walmart, Bellissimmo's Pizza (best freakin pizza outside Brooklyn), Panera Bread, Five Guys (my goodness are their burgers amazing!!!!), Lowes, Food for Thought, Chili's, Olive Garden, Burger King, McDonalds, New York Deli, and probably a ton of other places as well in the last couple months in Williamsburg and James City County and I have not had a single issue with OC'ing. Walked in front of uniformed Leo's, stood in line in front of undercover Leo's, got pulled over once, and no issues at all. Gotta say... it sure is nice in this neck of the woods!

....Then I went to Walmart (on mercury blvd. in hampton) without any problems .....

..... I would definitely OC at that Walmart.....

Last week I had to go to one of the buildings across the street from there. I was applying for a TWIC card in connection with my job and had to apply at what I was told was an office of the Port of Newport News. Not knowing the building, yet knowing TWIC is overseen by the TSA, I was envisioning a security check to enter the building so I had placed my handgun in the glovebox before leaving home, and locked it when I got out of the car.

Anyway, when I left the building and was getting back in my car some local type person was dropping someone at the door and while parked in the roadway decided he would stare at me. I guess he didnt like the fact that I didn't run away throwing my wallet at him and he drove at an inappropriate speed (for being in a parking lot) around the line of cars and into the space to my right. As he was doing this I was getting in my car normally and unlocking my glovebox, thinking maybe I should utilize the holster that's sitting in the cubbyhole on top of my car's center dash. I wasn't paying attention to what the local was doing until his car screeched to a halt next to me, at which time I was gripping my pistol in full view of him as I was about to place it in my dash holster. The screeching car made me look over just in time to see him look at me, shrink back in his seat and mouth the words 'whoa we cool'. I didn't point it at him, his timing was just unfortunate that he raced into the space beside me, but driving home I did start wondering 'what if ...'

(image not necessary to be posted more than once, so I removed it from the quote)

Well you got my nationality correct .... let's just leave it at that, I'll just say I never have been, nor will I ever be, a queen, but that is pretty much the view he would have had (ok let's ignore the screw on attachment, lip gloss and ear-rings .. and I have a 3 year old son so no way do I have that much hair left .. )

It wasn't intended to be you specifically. :) I could have used this picture but didn't like her trigger discipline:

As far as a suppressor, it makes alot of sense if you are going to be shooting from within your car but of course carrying one around all day is a bit inconvenient.

Those are pictures of the same woman. The 2nd one was taken years later after she matured and learned proper discipline. :p

Well, I'm going for it. I'll be OC'ing around Va Beach tomorrow for the first time. I picked up a Blackhawk Serpa the other day and have been wearing it around the house to get used to having it on while performing day to day stuff. I decided to pick a day when I'll be going to an OC/CC lunch to start. Should be interesting. I'll write on how it goes tomorrow.

Well, the get together went really well. We ate at Smokey Bones at VB Blvd and Independence, and the manager Jeff and his staff were great. Channel 13 news ended up showing up and interviewed the guy Rob that put the lunch together. The camera guy said it should air at 6 and 11 tonight. He was nice and was joking around with us. Also, the mall security guy came by to check on what we were doing. He was also very respectful and went on about his business. All in all it was a great event, and about 50 people showed up, some with their kids. Suprisingly enough a lot of people I talked to hadn't heard about this site, but they have now.

OC-ed to Pizza King, Wynne Ford yesterday no issues.

Great article today that I agree with 100% : http://www.wnd.com/2013/01/time-to-roll-back-all-gun-bans/

ETA:
Just got back from Arby's and had a 2A discussion with an older-(than me) couple. He asked if I was a state trooper and we talked about gun free zones and gun control (meaning hitting what you aim at). Another customer joined in the conversation saying that he agreed with all we were saying but said that we (in general) need to keep guns away from crazy people. He listed the AZ, CO, and CT shootings as examples. I tried to talk about being careful who we restrict guns from because getting on a list can be hard to get off. He kept going back to being against doctor/patient confidentiality laws etc. There already is the capability for the doctor to notify authorities if they think the individual is a threat to himself or others (they just have to accurately judge that). He left shortly after that so I didn't (he wouldn't let me talk) get to talk about while it may be good to keep guns from "crazys" the problem is who gets to define "crazy"? After all our gubbermant already labeled returning veterans, Rob Paul supporters, pro-life advocates, etc as terrorists!!!!

The couple were polite and we went off into the weeds a bit but I handed them a OC Info card and found out he already "knew" about VCDL.

Laundromat

I decided to go to the local landromat to wash a comforter and talked to the woman working there.

I brought a Combat Handguns magazine I started to read before we started talking. The conversation lasted over an hour and we wound up going page by page through the magazine looking for good examples of guns that would work best for a woman. She was from Texas and lived in VA for eight years so we talked about CHP laws in TX and VA as well as OC as a proactive preventative measure to avoid an attack in the first place.

I gave her an OC Info card and some info on local gun stores and recommendations for guns to try. Hopefully she finds something she likes. She mentioned that she liked the outside the waistband style of holster so maybe just maybe she will be a new OC-er someday. :)
