Eh. I OC everywhere. The worst they can do is ask you to leave.

Yeah, and that's kinda why I tend to not think about posting updates as I don't think of OC'ing as a "special event" kind of thing. For the very most part I get very few looks and almost never have anyone either make a comment or ask a question. All of which though presents the problem that you can get so comfortable OC'ing around here that you forget that you can't go some places -- like with me as it would be very easy to forget and duck into the P.O. lobby to my box for a quick pickup....but then I remember, oh yeah. Let's not.

Re: Open Carry in Hampton Roads

Went to Walmart for boots and picked up the last box of .45 on the self. I asked the lady when the next shipment was coming, and she said it was due soon. Wouldn't give me a time of it would beer in though.

Been OCing a bit as usual. Food Lion, Farm Fresh, Subway, Walmart.

At subway a young man who was kind of creepy looking (according to my daughter) stood very close behind me. He was invading my personal space and I was trying to angle my sidearm away from him but the way the line wrapped around it wasn't easy. On the way out where my daughter informed me about the creepyness, I told her that I was prepared in case he did a gun grab. :-( Of course nothing bad happened and no one commented or said anything about the sidearm. There were three separate military members in line too.

I have been buying ammo online and stopped the walmart daily/weekly trips looking for ammo. I usually am going to their pharmacy but am now contemplating stopping any shopping there since the seem to be buckling to political pressure against the 2A. I have been waiting to see how it plays out and haven't decided yet. It will be a shame though since Walmart was a great first place to OC for people since they supported/allowed free exercise of the 2A in the past.

Dr Dan, I invite you to do an AK pistol shoot with me at Lafayette Gun Club sometime. :)

I haven't heard much on a update on it myself. I plan on stopping in Deshiells on the way home to see what they have.
I need to ask them about there policy on Red Wing boots. I heard they had a life time warranty. Seems to be worth the $200 if that's true.

I went to Cook Out on Military Hwy, and had a similar experience. This guy with a lot of piercings (yes I have a tattoo and #6 gauge piercings in my lobes, but this guy was a bit less conservatively decked out ;) ) kept pressing up against me, strong side. I just clamp my elbow against the grip of my gun, and if it moves, so do I!

I do not handle invasions of my personal space well. A firm "Back. Up." with eye contact will usually take care of it.

The place was packed, and I was trying not to cause a problem. It's a new establishment, and they don't have a policy, no need to give them a reason to create one.

I can't OC at school (ODU) but I can wear my GSL hat! I already had one guy ask me where I got it, so I told him about VCDL and OCDO.

There is more than one cat to skin........and lots of ways of doing it. (--figuratively speaking of course--)

Popped OC Cherry Tonight!

I just registered to the forum tonight, seeing as how it is also my first night OCing.
I went out to the movies and obviously had to leave my gun in my car, due to posted signs.
Then I went to Walmart (on mercury blvd. in hampton) without any problems and I look forward to
continue exercising my right to do so!
Thank you to everyone here who encourages OC, glad to be part of it now!

Welcome to OCDO - nice first night OCing. You have now taken the first step of what will hopefully prove to be a pleasant journey.

Take the opportunity to sign up for the free Va-Alerts and keep current with what is happening in Virginia.

While you are there on the site, please do join VCDL (http://www.vcdl.org/join) - best $25. you'll ever spend. :D

Also check out the meet-n-greets in your area - see the stickys on top of the VA sub-forum on OCDO.

Welcome and congrats! I would definitely OC at that Walmart. Hopefully we can schedule an OC dinner soon and get some new people together.

As I recommend to all gun owners/carriers, read up and know your rights. Remember laws change and YOU and only YOU are responsible for understanding them and following them. After reading leaglise for a while it is good to ask questions to make sure any confusion is removed.

Enjoy, :)

My wife and I OC'd today to Barnes and Noble, Rancho Grande, and then to Bob's for some range time. No issues. This was actually her first time OCing, since I bought her a small .38

This one is almost confusing. Probably on purpose. But the way i take it, i can not carry a loaded semi-auto hand gun in the listed citys, if it holds more than 20 rounds. No?

§ 18.2-287.4. Carrying loaded firearms in public areas prohibited; penalty.

It shall be unlawful for any person to carry a loaded (a) semi-automatic center-fire rifle or pistol that expels single or multiple projectiles by action of an explosion of a combustible material and is equipped at the time of the offense with a magazine that will hold more than 20 rounds of ammunition or designed by the manufacturer to accommodate a silencer or equipped with a folding stock or (b) shotgun with a magazine that will hold more than seven rounds of the longest ammunition for which it is chambered on or about his person on any public street, road, alley, sidewalk, public right-of-way, or in any public park or any other place of whatever nature that is open to the public in the Cities of Alexandria, Chesapeake, Fairfax, Falls Church, Newport News, Norfolk, Richmond, or Virginia Beach or in the Counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Henrico, Loudoun, or Prince William.

The provisions of this section shall not apply to law-enforcement officers, licensed security guards, military personnel in the performance of their lawful duties, or any person having a valid concealed handgun permit or to any person actually engaged in lawful hunting or lawful recreational shooting activities at an established shooting range or shooting contest. Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor.

Carrying thusly is illegal unless you are exempted - see bolded above.
