Letter Received From John P. Steinbrink Today

The only thing I can give this guy credit for is mailing me a letter instead of an email response.

Here is what the letter states:

Dear Mr. XXX: (yes, those are : NOT a comma)

Thank you for your message regarding Assembly Bill 237, legislation put forward by Rep. Joel Kleefisch that would expand authority for police to make arrests for violations involving civil forfeitures to all law enforcement in the state. The proposal received a hearing in the Criminal Justice and Corrections Committee earlier this month and that committee voted on the bill this morning. (letter is dated October 25th, 2011)

Supporters of the bill during that committee's consideration of the bill included law enforcement, municipalities and advocates against domestic violence. Current law differentiates between police in cities that are able to make arrests in more circumstances than law enforcement elsewhere and supporters of AB 237 said do not provide clarity in the enforceability of laws involving forfeitures.

I am not a member of that committee, but should majority Republicans schedule the bill for consideration by the full Assembly I look forward to the debate on the bill and appreciate your comments on the proposal.
Thank you for forwarding your comments regarding this proposal.

Best Wishes,

Sincerely,

John Steinbrink
(Etc...ad nauseum)

This state has gone to H*LL. Anyone who took the Oath of Office should denounce this bill and denounce those that wrote it. Many of our "legislators" and "senators" are just plain ignorant or mentally challenged...or both!

Called Rep Vos again...

..., and his office said they haven't had a chance to speak with him yet. I told her that was alright, and that the silence in this matter is being posted and any interpretation by our members is what Rep Vos is allowing. I further noted all the emails being posted, and damage control seemed to be the trend. Vos's office assured me a communication would be forthcoming. boar out.

Heres Mine...

Thank you for your email message expressing concern with or opposition to Assembly Bill 237 (AB 237) relating to authorization to make arrests for activities punishable by civil forfeiture. I appreciate hearing from you on this matter.

Much information is currently circulating about this bill and it is experiencing a lot of discussion. Be assured I will definitely keep your thoughts in mind as this legislation is considered throughout the legislative process.

Thank you again for contacting me to share your opinion on AB 237. Feel free to contact me in the future if I can ever be of assistance.

Sincerely,

Samantha J. Kerkman

To Senator Wanggaard, no news for days.

Senator Wanggaard: It’s plain to see why AB-237 has been introduced, and kept out of the news. It will not only raise revenue, it removes any liability from police for unlawful detainment, or arrest. Police discretion will be our judge and jury. I can’t understand why people in the JUSTICE business aren’t as angry about this as we are at WCI. The people in the state of Wisconsin are being striped of their rights. One big plus for the state is that people will be forced to pay the forfeiture for an ordinance violation before their convicted. This will be a great weapon for those in law enforcement to use in stops that are related to the new, highly contested, conceal carry law. AB -237 puts disorderly conduct, obstruction, disturbing the peace, and a host of other tools of harassment legally in the hands of police, and prosecutors. This bill carries with it Constitutional ramifications which have yet to be questioned. The fact that you cosponsored this proposed end run and miscarriage of justice is inexcusable. This attempted action on your part should be reconsidered at once. This will be posted on our site with the others that have voiced concerns. Thank you. Dennis Hamm.

There's nothing wrong with making our opinions clear to our legislators on this but I just want to point out my post above:

Just got off the phone with Rep. Sudor's office. According to them, he does NOT support it and will make sure it does not come up for a vote on the floor. According to his aid, it's effectively dead on arrival.

Very good news! I'm not totally trusting it and we should maintain vigilance but it's looking up.

Representative Sudor is the Assembly majority leader and between him and Fitz, they decide what comes up for a vote. His aides assured me that he won't let it see the light of day.

So, what I'm saying is that after contacting your own reps, if you don't trust what the aide told me; contact Sudor and Fitz and talk to them about it.

Was at the the Capitol today, OCing with GoockRDH. After he left I visited with some legislative staffers. Rep. Danou is withdrawing his sponsorship. It is hearsay the Rep. Kleefish pullled AB237 from the Assemlbly Committee on Rules so that it can't be brought up, but at this point, I would count that as an unsubstantiated rumor. His staffer still doesn't get it and saying that is passed committee 9-0 as proof it's a good bipartisan bill. Kleefiasch may be working on an substitute ammendment. That is my speculation and not beyond the realm of possibility. :(

I got a written, paper response from my rep. Hebl who voted for this. Surprisingly, it does not sound like a canned response.

Cliff notes version: He voted for it because nobody opposed it until after it passed committee. He felt all the reasons given by the lying (my word) ass. police chief were sound, and asked for reasons why he should oppose it.

I sent him a email back pointing out the 2 main problems with this bill and how the testimony was a lie-that it would prevent people from suing for civil rights violation (which it would not, but could cause more red tape and court delays), and that the claim police could not discern between arresting for a criminal violation and a civil violation, which is also a lie and insult to law enforcement.

Then I painted a picture for him about how this power could be abused by a cop with a vendetta.

Frankly, I'd like to see this bill OFFICIALLY dead, not just DOA cause the leaders say they won't release it for a vote.

Like a zombie, the only way to make sure it's stays dead is a headshot.

Only Kleefisch and Wanngard still have thier names on this bill. A staffer in Danou's office, when telling me that Danou is withdrawing sponsorship, also said that Kleefisch has pulled the bill. But, there are rumors and the bill might get ammended to make it 'workable' and after talking to Kleefisch's staffer, I am afraid this bill is NOT dead. I got a really bad feeling from that office.:mad:

That brookfield asst chief has...

...nothing to base an escalation of any type. The population has only increased by 539 from 2000-2009. property crime is at state level, and violent crime is well below that. Brookfield doesn't even have a minority population of 10%. He can just go piss up a rope! boar out
