If I was a soldier whose death was being disgraced by this "church", then yes, I would want people protesting that. Esp, with A2 involved, that's one thing they fought for.

Obviously its a funeral and not a typical OC function, the focus should never be on OC in such a situation, or any other charitable function. OCers can do such things as citizens who just happen to carry guns, and use the platform of OC as a launch pad for events like litter pick ups toy drives or possibly military funerals..

The fact that these people thank they are Christians sickens me. They worship the false idol of Westboro Baptist Church. I am so disgusted.

Long guns?

I say call the national guard... Just to be a friendly barrier, let them have their stupid protest, I'll fight for their first amendment rights, but whose to say a FRIENDLY National Guard barrier wouldn't be a good idea. The family has the first amendment rights to have their peaceful service, so why not have a barrier between the two?

I agree. These are NOT Christians. These and other cults that twist the Bible into something another doctrine are the sort of people that turn a lot of folks away from Jesus, The Christ.

In this case we should leave the pistols at home I guess.

Okay - There seems to be a bit of confusion on my part. After 1st reading about this here I assumed (my mistake) that we were asked to attend (hence OC). After reading MGO posts it seems that we are still asked to come out just not to OC, (and that's okay too). This is about showing support so I will leave my guns at home. I do so reluctantly but, I can see the focus being on the family and letting them grieve as they see fit to do. Now lets show up with a wall of flags that blot these folks from WBC out completely.

Can we keep this thread on topic PLEASE. The O.P. was about getting together and
Honoring a Fallen Soldier. Thank you

indeed!

Yep just go there and act as you would normally. Be MR. Nice Guy and don't worry about the protesters. OC if that is what you normally do.

BE aware but don't make a big deal about the protesters. Just Shield and follow the cues from the PGR folks.

good plan,

there was a spot today in the paper that they were in another state and said they might not make it this event, even though they already have members here in the state. the saint claire sheriffs will be assisting the marine city PD and said it would be better if they did not show up at all.

yet another good plan, but like autosurgeon said if OC is your daily form of carry then fine do so. just don't be to flambouyant about it, no long guns no MI pistols no drop leg holsters. keep it respectful, and follow the lead of the PGR. and be aware, the cops will be out in force due to these total douch bag applicators! don't get caught up in there BS and don't for any reason short of an actuall attack get into any sort of engagement with them, thats how they fund the little group suing people they have pushed to far:cuss:!

ignore them, the cops will take care of them if they go to far. i have dealt with them before on 2 separate occaisions, they will rant, and they will call on god to kill the fags and soldiers, and they will generally be completely idiotic:banghead:. but they have yet to attack someone, that i know of. they will hope for you to attack them! know this, and advoid the legal trap! :banghead:

Seems there's going to be people carrying there. I got the same impression, however Kurt himself said the only restriction was no long guns. The 'family friend' having a cow doesn't seem to have the right information somewhere along the lines. Carry on if that's what you'd normally do.

Well,

For anyone planning, I'll be there at about 8:30-45 for assembly in the church parking lot.

Briefing is at 9:15 AM with the Patriot Guard.

If you're planning on being there, please take all orders from them.

Please be respectful. Please remember why you're going: To honor a fallen soldier.

Just an FYI. The "family friend" is a good guy and as pro-2A as anyone I've ever met. I'm certain he only has Kurt's family's best interests at heart. As I'm sure everyone else here does.

Warchild's post which I happen to agree with, most likely reflects his reason for posting what he did on MGO.

OK back on topic. Hope to see you there at 8:30

Wandered into this thread and want to say congratulations to all who helped support the family of this fallen soldier.

A couple of notes, to the person who said WBC has been at this for 5 years, they've been at it at least since 1999 when I was at the Columbine Memorial.

Also, WBC have retaliated against the OK town where their tires were slashed by protesting a child's funeral who was killed in a carnival ride. There are days when I think it'd be so worth the time in the iron house to deal with these people with slightly "less" than lethal means.

What I meant to say was the Patriot Guard Riders have been counter protesting
the westboro clan for around 5 years now. My writing skills suck. :)
The Patriot Guard was established in 2005
