I feel sorry for the posters here and at the same time would like to say thank you very much to the Kitsap county sheriffs’ people; especially the ladies in the Silverdale satellite office. I went in there today and in 15 minutes I had a signed folded and laminated CPL renewal in hand and walked out the door. I am glad that I live in a county that has a reasonable sheriffs department.

I find that I need to go to the office supply store to have it done and it's a couple of bucks to have it done.

You're lucky.

snip...My problem is that if you go to the LESA office, you have to get there first thing in the morning or you're gonna end up waiting for a very long time just to get up to the counter. snip...

Grim...went downtown at the annex yesterday< TUESDAY > and was in and out in less than 30 minutes...app and fingerprinting done quite quickly!! seems nobody realizes the IS' office re-opened on tuesdays again so it wasnt busy so you might want to put that in your schedule. also discerned that apparently when they moved from the courthouse they lost 10 ppl due to budget cuts. in fact the lass doing the fingerprinting is a contractor running the fingerprint machine.

ps: they offered me the 5$ lamination which i took advantage of...

That was probably partly my fault. The same lady that was pissy with me tried to tell my wife that she needed to get a Washington Driver's License because she was only an active duty spouse and not in the military herself (this was when we were applying for the CPL). When we got back, I wrote the sheriff an email stating what she told my wife and suggested that his secretary keep her unsolicited and INCORRECT legal advice to herself. He said he would take care of it.

Your fault, no, that "kind" office lady can take responsibility for her own sour behavior.

That fee schedule is for fingerprints for non-CPL uses, such as military background checks. The fee for fingerprints for the CPL is included in the fee for the CPL itself:
RCW 9.41.070:
(5) The nonrefundable fee, paid upon application, for the original five-year license shall be thirty-six dollars plus additional charges imposed by the federal bureau of investigation that are passed on to the applicant. No other state or local branch or unit of government may impose any additional charges on the applicant for the issuance of the license.

The fee shall be distributed as follows:

(a) Fifteen dollars shall be paid to the state general fund;

(b) Four dollars shall be paid to the agency taking the fingerprints of the person licensed;

That is what I thought.

Then what is that cost list on the PDF I linked to? Why are some saying free and some, like the Edmonds police, say $60 (CPL fee, plus fingerprinting fees).

Or is this yet another case of the police violating the law?
