As Gomer Pyle said, "Aw, shucks, y'all jus' tryin' to make my head swell up."

But seriously, can we get that statute repealed?

I wonder if a certain grass roots gun rights organization would be willing to proactively throw its considerable weight and new infusion of funding http://www.luckygunner.com/results into that effort?

stay safe.

There is no such infusion of funds. There may be or there may not be ultimately - I suspect the latter knowing from whom that would have to come. I doubt that they have much in the way of cash convertable assets, and seriously doubt that any of Bloomie's money is at risk.

Which brings me back to my dream of a judgement being awarded and their name included in assets to be seized in satisfaction.

But even without an infusion of funding, would they be proactively willing?

stay safe.

They? The fight is Lucky Gunners and "they" didn't make the situation know until well into the protracted battle.

What are you asking when you say "proactively willing?"

I think the Resident Curmudgeon was avoiding making any direct reference to the VCDL and its leadership. Not that his suggestion would have been derogatory, but he's right, one does wonder. And as otherwise suggested, our first step would have to be to get a proper governor.

It's Curmudgeon Emeritus. Get it right.

Even without a proper governor it might be possible if there were enough folks who were willing to stand up to a veto. Attaining either one will, sadly, be very difficult.

stay safe.

Guess Who Knocked on my Door Today!

Delegate (and candidate forreelection) Monty Mason (D-93) knocked on my door today to solicit my (and mywife’s) vote.

I identified myself as aNeighborhood Watch Coordinator, a VCDL EM, and a Board Member of Lafayette GunClub.

I asked him what he wastrying to do about crime. He said he was on the House Courts of JusticeCommittee and on the Crime Subcommittee. I told him that as a senior citizen,I’m not able to run away, so I carry for self-defense.

I asked him about the lack ofintent in the brandishing statute. I told him about the possibility that aperson handling a firearm in public view could be convicted of brandishing ifsomeone who saw the act was scared by it and reported it, even though theindividual handling the firearm was unaware of their observation. I used myneighbor carrying his pistol over to my house as a hypothetical example. He said he would look into this. I evensuggested he contact VCDL for a sample bill.

I told him that the LafayetteGun Club Junior Program teaches kids to shoot who often earn collegescholarships because of their skill, and that the kids in our (high crime)southeast community who also learn to shoot go to jail, which demonstratesclearly that the problem is not the gun. He responded that was because the clubwas teaching the kids to shoot safely, whereas the other kids didn’t have suchan exposure. Who teaches these kids right from wrong?

He admitted that his brothertaught the NRA Concealed Carry class (I think he meant FIRST steps), and thathis family owns a number of weapons. He said that a relative of his (unclemaybe?) carries when he goes to his local pharmacy late at night.

I was OCing while we talkedon my front porch.

He and his opponent, LaraOvery (R), will be facing off this Thursday at the Williamsburg RegionalLibrary at 7:00pm.

The record has been received in the Va. Supreme Court. We should be getting an assignment for oral argument sometime soon.

Really, seriously, profoundly looking forward to this with GREAT hope of a positive resolution.

I think a win in this case would do much to destroy the brandishing statute - yes?
