I just think we view personal property rights differently...which is perfectly acceptable. I think if I want to have a "dress code" for my business that includes "no pants with pockets", while I'm likely to lose a ton of customers, that's purely my decision to make. I do understand the point your making as to the implications for everyone when we make it acceptable to ban a gun somewhere...but I think private parties have that right. Gov't, on the other hand, should not.
And we agree on this. But I just take it one step farther to point out that no sane person WOULD enact such a code for their business, so we have to continuously point out that a property owner banning the carry of firearms is just as crazy and wrong to do so.

Any time we approve, explicitly or tacitly, that a gun is different than a red shirt, we retreat and lose a step in our efforts.

Well here is an interesting update on the situation. We have a dog run and playground that were advertised as part of the complex and maintenance has even done the work on them. Well I just found out from the zone manager that those two items are not part of the property and actually belong to the county. When the complex was sold a couple of years back the owners gave ownership to them over to Fairfax county. I found this out because the dog run fence is too small for our little dog and she can squeeze through and the manager just told me that it belongs to the county. That was their main area of concern because if someone was carrying out there they felt it could make the residents uncomfortable. Well I guess now that it belongs to the county preemption applies and they can kiss my grits so to say.

Another funny thing was that this last weekend there was evidently a fight outside of my apartment that the police came by and asked questions. I didn't see it but heard from the guys who did. We have had some break ins and the local manager was trying to arrange a community meeting with the police and apartment staff to discuss things. When I asked the zone manager he said that they had no plans to have a meeting. I asked what about the email that was sent and forwarded it to him. I had discussed this before with him and I think he was hoping that it would just go away. Whoops on his part. I even told him that we have discussed it and they are just hoping to not have anything that might make it look like their place has problems since they have been having problems getting renters lately. I am waiting to hear back from him and the local manager on this.

Side note is that I need to look at the pet addendum in my lease and see if it mentions anything about the dog run and part of our pet fees going to that. Paying a fee to maintain county property sounds illegal to me.

$$$ talks BS walks

They are going to change the conditions of your lease ...

Get together with other tenants and ask for an early release out of the lease for all the gun owners (or others who object).

It will be interesting to see them try since they already gave me permission to have them in the apartment and carry to and from the exit concealed. Plus I don't think they are that stupid with the amount of military they rent to. One guy I know even has reload equipment here.
