Things would have turned out very differently had a brave woman (Patricia Maisch) not wrestled the shooters magazine away while he was attempting a reload.
I just heard an audio interview that stated she was helping 2 men disarm the shooter.

I made this new post to set the record straight. Sorry for the confusion.

FTL: Shot congresswoman was violent too

Free Talk Live's politically incorrect discussion of the Arizona shootings, now illustrated. What crackdowns on innocents will occur as part of the backlash against this shooter? And was the gunman's congressional target aggressively violent in her own, "acceptable" way?

Neither the time or place for this. Hold such thoughts in reserve, please.

Watch out for New Gun Control

Because of this crisis , new gun control will be creeping from Congress. Politicians use a crisis to move an agenda forward.

Apparently a LAC was the initial responder. That he choose to not use deadly force is a testament to his decision in light of all circumstances and his response was effective. Would like to see this gentleman recognized for his fast thinking response with the acknowledgment that he was carrying legally - pointing out that the difference between himself and the other is not his tools but his ACTIONS. Good man.

Watch interview with LAC:
http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/bestoftv/2011/01/08/exp.az.zamudio.witness.cnn?hpt=T1

The guy who put him down was interviewed on KOLD (last night) and the reporter asked him what he would say to the (alleged) shooter...: His last statement was: " I'm glad I didn't have to shoot him." Apparently, Patricia Maisch (an older woman) apparently kicked a magazine clear when this Jared maniac dropped it while attempting to reload. Apparently the weapon had been wrested away as well by this woman and another man. At that point he was physically taken down by Joe Zamudio (the LAC) and held on the ground (face plant) 'n another guy came and stood on the shooters neck 'til LE arrived. He effected a take down w/o using his gun because the situation didn't present that option. The shooter was wearing a 'hoodie'... and the guy who grabbed him was a pretty fair sized guy (early, mid-30's I'd guess). Had he drawn the firearm in that situation, it's a distinct possibility that he himself could have been shot by responding LE if he had the weapon in hand. I dunno if that was in his thoughts at the time, but the situation was chaotic. He had the perp secured and immobile. Game over at that point. This seems to me as one of those 'worst case' scenarios where the inital shock of the act in that setting would be so overwhelming that few would have time to react even if they could.

This wasn't a left/right politically motivated attack... this Jared loser is nuts. It could have just as easily been anybody.

Agreed, If it hadn't been a gun, it would have been something else - machete, baseball bat, sword, knife, bow & arrow, chain, car or truck, pipe bombs. This was not about the weapon he chose but his intent to make a statement by harming others. He would have done it no matter what weapon was at his hands.

...nor any license, permission slip, level of visibility, color, creed, gender, color of his gun, shape of his gun, number of rounds in his magazine, caliber of his gun, brand of his gun, price of his gun, hair style, clothing, size of bank account, degree of hygiene, type/color car he drives, political connections, religious beliefs, country of origin, what he likes do do with his penis, size of his penis, how many kids he has, whether or not he ate meatloaf last Thursday, training, experience, number of times he watched "The Smurfs" as a child.... etc...

Reading the article at this link yields some chilling information.

He was kicked out of school because he was "weird", and wouldn't be allowed to return without a psychiatric evaluation that said he would not present a danger.

Whoa! Since when can anybody break a contract and demand a mental health evaluation, and refuse to provide a service without a psychiatrist saying someone is not dangerous?

What constitutes "weird?" Who decides if someone is too "creepy?"

It used to be that making a threat was the threshold. Now, it would seem, we have this new angle sneaking in where if someone thinks you're weird or creepy, it automatically translates into a mental evaluation. Jeezus.

I kinda wonder if the right people are being targeted for mental evaluations. Maybe its the people who get "creeped out" and start thinking "danger! danger!" and obsess about danger who really need the...ahem...help.

Hell, look at me.... All the freaks in the SouthEast forums declare how weird I am and only 'their kind' are allowed to have guns, etc...

It's a popularity thing. If you're cool, you dominate those who are not. And, if they aren't any better than you, they eventually come looking for payback...

Thank God most 'weirdos' are mentally and morally superior to their oppressors. This is, usually, why they are considered 'weirdos.'

Every once in a while, the Popular asshats pick on someone that is their own equal, then, things like this happen...
