Had my first wide-eyed little kid experience today in the Walmart parking lot...a little boy about 6 or 7. He saw my pistol as I was getting out of the truck, turned to his dad and said "Oooohhhhh...a GUN!!" Dad smiled and nodded at me, I laughed and went in to do my shopping. As I walked past the pharmacy Rebecca the pharmacy tech I always seem to have helping me with my prescriptions waved me over. She said "You got different grips on your gun" and she was right. Just put them on tonight. I think she's kinda' sweet on me. Makes this old man feel pretty good, but don't tell my wife. Here's a pic of the new 2A bling:

After that I headed over to Lowes for some plumbing supplies. The lady working in that section came over to ask if I needed help and commented that I was the first person she had seen open carrying in the store. All in all a pleasant non-event kinda' day.

Those are NICE!

They look like they could get slippery if your hands get sweaty, is that a problem?

They aren't Alumagrips, they are machined from 6061 aluminum stock. I bought them from a guy on Ebay who makes all sorts of aluminum grips, motorcycle bling, etc. I don't find them to be slippery at all, although the front strap of the pistol could use some grip tape as it is untextured. Being 6061 they due tend to scuff a bit, but it only adds to the personality of the gun.

Hibdon Tires

Had to get a new tire the other day. Called Hibdon Tire about 4 to let them know I would be there about 5. Got there about 5:20 and asked how long it would take, the guy told me about an hour. No one seemed to care that I was OC and no one said anything to me. I was out of there in 30 minuets though.

Lately it has been Chik-fil-a where i had a nice conversation about retention holsters with a young mother of 2. She was looking for one to be ready when her permit came in. The Re-Tool store, Steve's wholesale tools, Lowes in BA, etc, etc, etc. More and more non-events.

New one this week, took my wife to Pho Da Cho @9000 E 31. We were seated at the table closest to the register and my wife said the older lady behind it was giving my gun the stink eye. I was facing the door and couldn't tell any difference in our service one way or the other. Delicious food.
plus the midtown usuals: Readers, Walmart market, Target... no problems

No guns sign, kid behind the register said he thinks it is this stores policy. I didn't go into it any further since I was with my wife and daughter.

Shepherd's c-store in Blackwell, OK after church. I went in OC'ing my 5" M1911 and immediately caught the eye of a young lad, maybe 6 or 7. He said "Mom...a GUN!" Mom looked at me and smiled, then told the boy that people carry guns and it's okay. He never took his eye off me, and when I glanced at him and smiled...he made a WIDE pass around behind me and took up a new vantage point. It was all I could do not to bust out laughing. :D

I stopped to fuel my wrecker today in Seiling. I pulled up to the pump and went inside to prepay, and saw a gunbuster sign just as I cleared the plane of the door. Rather than doing the usual about face, I pulled out a no guns, no money card and told the clerk to pass this on to the manager. I told her that I was buying probably $200 of diesel, but that I'd be going to the Domino down the street since they don't make me disarm.

Seemed VERY out of place to see a gunbuster in Seiling.

When I got my fuel at Domino, I made a point to tell the manager why I came to her store instead. She agreed totally and said she has a handgun license herself :)

Domino is gun friendly? Good to hear. They are putting in one near me. No more 7-Eleven for me. :D

I know it's about a week late, but I open carried at the OKC arts festival last weekend. Officers everywhere, not one issue. Actually was looking at some art with my wife and daughter and had an officer approach me and literally stand shoulder to shoulder with me, he looked at the same piece of art with me, looked me up and down and gave me the "whats up" nod and walked away. Walked past at least 2 dozen cops while there and not so much as a word. OCPD is been very polite about OC, as the way it should be.

Other than the arts festival, I open carry all day, every day, everywhere I go and continue to get nothing to positive comments, if any comments at all.

Dinner with my wife at Logan's Roadhouse in Owasso last night. I carried my 3 inch S&W Model 13 on my hip, and no one even blinked.

Took my wifes Van to Midas over on 46th and Mingo yesterday. Spent almost 3 hours there and no issues. Not one person said anything about me carrying my .40 XDM. Love that gun! There wer plenty of customers and workers at the location. Another location with no issues whatsoever.

Rooster Days

Sunday afternoon the family and I went to Rooster Days in Broken Arrow. Walked around, threw some money away at a midway game booth, rode a couple of the rides, all while OC'ing my Glock 23 in a Blackhawk Serpa. Walked in right in front of a BA policeman, past a couple of cops in a golf cart, stood in front of the command post overwatch, and hardly a look. I do want to say that I was not baiting the police, it just happened that they happened to be where the girls stopped to look at things. Another smashing non event.

I was at a Kum and go with the wife getting coffee this morning, then a Customer noticed my Firearm and told me he liked seeing that. I gave him an OKOCA card and asked him to check us out. If told me he would.

Open Carry during Church Services [DENIED]

I've recently been asked not to open carry at church. I'm of course, not overly pleased about this change, especially now that we (as a state) made this step toward freedom.

I wrote an article about it a couple weeks ago: http://www.kennethbaucum.com/guns-at-church

Does anyone know of a Baptist church in the Tulsa area that allows/supports/encourages open carry at church?

Went to Arby's for lunch today, looked like an all new lunch crew. There were 4 people behind the counter, one person taking orders, the shift leader wiping down trays, the drive threw person, and one other that was filling orders.

The order filler instantly got her head real close to the shift leader and said something about me and my side arm. Instantly the shift leader asked if I was a police officer. I said "no", to which she replied, "To bad, if you would have said 'Yes' you would have gotten a 50% discount. Remember that next time." I politely said, "That's OK". The order filler then asked if I was able to carry because I had a permit and I said, "Yes". At this point the 4 behind the counter got into a discussion of who wanted guns, motorcycles, or both.

No positive or negative interaction, but still thought it was kind of funny.

Keith,

I read your article which I found to be an excellent read, I do not attend church for many different reasons which I will not discuss on here, BUT I believe in GOD.

I think you should stay in your current place of worship and change their minds, and if they still insist, IMO you deserve a reason why they won't allow it, I believe they are being judgemental whoever they may be.
