I OC around my nieces all the time. The only extra step I take for their safety is if I will be playing with them in any physical way, I make sure there is no round in the chamber. (Military style pistol with no safety)
Its all about POSITIVE CONTROL of the firearm at all times. In a proper holster with trigger guard, the pistol is safer than itwould beput on the top shelf of a closet in the house where they "theoretically" are not suppose to be able to reach it.
With kids present,a firearm either needs to be locked up oron your person, and under your control. Anything else is irresponsible. IMHO
Note:A pistol left in a handbag on the counter is the same thing as leaving the pistol on the counter. I don't think a firearm should EVER be carried in a handbag or any other container that isn't secured to the individual.
