I'm fairly new to North Las Vegas, Nevada. I am trying to find out what the legal rules to carry pepper spray to protect myself from unwanted advances. I have found two products. The first one is 1: Mace Triple Action Pepper Spray, it contains OC Pepper, CN Tear Gas, UV Marking Dye. It weighs 11grams. The 2nd one 2: Mace Police Pepper Spray, 18 grams, says it's police strength. I would like to protect myself when someone can't take " I'm sorry I'm not interested". I appreciate any help on this subject. I ask because I get different answers on what products I can use and what my legal rights are to protect myself. Thank you.

Protect yourself from what? It is hard for me to imagine a situation that goes from "I'm sorry I'm not interested" to needing pepper spray or deadly weapons to protect yourself without an intermediate step or two. What is it that you imagine yourself not being interested in? What is it that you feel threatened by if you say that you are not interested in it? Are you talking about pepper spraying prostitutes that proposition you? Are they so persistent and agressive that you feel threatened and need weapons? Are you 13 years old? or maybe younger?

I'd be very hesitant using any non-lethal weapons on a group of prostitutes. Those ah, ah ..."girls"..., maybe "girls"... would gang up on you and beat you to death. It seems to me that it would be better strategy to just avoid the area and cede it to the "girls" for their own "business". What is it about the area that makes it so attractive to you that you are willing to risk the need to use weapons so that you can continue visiting it? If I though that I might need weapons in a certain place, I just stay away. Did I ask if you are 13 years old? Are you?

Excellant advice to which most of us subscribe.

Did I ask if you are 13 years old?

That is a whole 'nother issue. Some 13 yo are very mature and stable. Others much older might appear to have never grown up. Most of the time I would prefer the former, rather than the latter.

I find that 9mm hollow point ammunition in a reliable gun works just fine for me. :) Having a good, sturdy holster is a big help too. So far, I've never had to actually discourage a masher with it. It's possible that seeing the big, black gun on my hip does the job all by itself. I also find that staying away from places and people where such unwanted attention might be common... is very effective too.

I'm a certified firearms and self defense instructor, and we don't even talk about "sprays" in my classes. You might want to consider taking a good self defense class before you decide to buy that stuff. If, for whatever reason, you actually can't have a gun of some kind, I'm really sorry.

But whatever you want. I hope someone can advise you here. :)

While your warning MAY be entirely accurate is certainly seems it is more a hunch and no where near a Reasonable Articitulable Suspicion.... Just saying.

To the OP--- please see a lawyer for legal advice!
Seems the usual antics of the welcoming committee.

Don't the first few posts have to be approved by a moderator before they show up? If our mods thought this was a troll, why did they allow it to show up? If they didn't think it was a troll and so allowed the post to appear, why do some members assume a troll.

Declaring a first time poster is kind of a self-fulfilling prophesy. No doubt, some of these "solve my problem" posts are trolls. But for those that are not, the welcoming committee can very easily run off potential new members. Then, when the OP never responds, the welcoming committee declares they were correct in assuming the poster was a troll. I can't recall the last time any member of the self-appointed welcoming committee admitted they were wrong when an OP came back and engaged in civil discussion.

Methinks the cost of either ignoring or actually welcoming to a first time poster who might be a troll is much lower than the cost of running off a legit poster who might be a troll.

Did it occur to you that the OP might be a woman rather than a man?

"Unwanted advances" is a common, delicate way of saying, "sexual assault." Protecting oneself from sexual or other assault is a very common, and perfectly legitimate reason to carry either deadly or less-deadly defensive weapons. Some are even known to OC a firearm specifically to avoid any untoward advances in the first place.

But no worries. If the OP was a troll, s/he got his fill by having several emotional laden responses to his/her post. S/he either won't return, or will making his trollish nature well enough known there is no question. If the OP wasn't a troll, the welcoming committee has likely assured s/he won't post again and so can pat themselves on the back for running off another troll.

Newbies are supposed to go to moderation for their first 10 posts - that function is not working as intended. John Pierce is trying to get vBulletin® to correct the issue.

I concure - concluded from the beginning that the OP was a female.

looking about at the name of the forum ~ Open Carry
looking about at the thread titles in the main body of the forum as well as the nice Photos of individuals open carrying firearms or the big crossbreed holster w/gun
looking about at the capability of the newbie to discern to cruise specifically down to the NV state section and then put their post about P E P P E R
S P R A Y
, listing specific brands for us to discuss which is better?

unwanted advances coupled with OP's use of the verbal "I'm sorry I'm not interested" is not sexual assault!

bottom line, this is the first place i would seek to discuss which brand of Pepper Spray they should purchase!

Once corrected, I would hope that any first time post approved by moderators as not likely to be a troll, would receive a little more friendly welcome than we too often see.

That seemed obvious to me as I've never seen a man overly worried about unwanted advances. But some of our usual welcoming committee went straight to some rather unpleasant insults including questioning the age and maturity of the OP. Sadly, our moderator joined in that vein rather than offering any gentle correction.

You misstate your case - it is not a violation of Forum Rules to consider the age of a poster.

To suggest that any of my posts on the subject were insulting or unpleasant is ludicrous.

Continue in this manner and best be prepared for the inevitable.

[delete usual ramblings]
Having official moderator rulings that the following is not a personal insult, it seems the most appropriate response is simply:

finally solus, while i am personally and sorely disappointed you do not have a clue, i understand completely and am not discouraged.

The inevitable for what violation of which rules, Grapeshot?

Is it a violation of rules to offer an opinion that certain posts were less than friendly and welcoming?

Certainly nobody is so thin skinned as to take offense at such an opinion.

Are you enforcing rules even handedly? Or are you using your position to intimidate against any all disagreements with your personal opinions, or any offering of personal opinions that you don't agree with?

Just my 2 cents, of course.

first, being homophobic as your constant rants leads me to believe, i can see why your experience base might not have seen a male overly worried about unwanted advances from brutes, bully, and think of Matthew Shepard and other GLBT citizens.

Where Matthew was left after being pistol whipped with a gun, tied to a fence in freezing conditions, then set on fire and left to die.

finally, whom are the usual welcoming committee, your backhanded insult is directed towards me...sorry i am a johnny come lately, so you were saying about the usual members??

I consider this an insult. Doubtless, our mods will see otherwise.

i can see why your experience base might not have seen a male overly worried about unwanted advances from brutes, bully, and think of Matthew Shepard and other GLBT citizens.
Funny that you respond that way to my post, but leave gutshots much more offensive way of stating the same thing untouched. I believe your concern is about me personally rather than about the content. Again, our mods will doubtless allow your direct insults to stand.

Where Matthew was left after being pistol whipped with a gun, tied to a fence in freezing conditions, then set on fire and left to die.
A horrific crime for which I believe his assailants were sentenced to double life sentences as part of plea deals that took the death penalty off the table. Short of capital punishment or violating our constitutional (and civilized) prohibitions against cruel and unusual punishment, I'm not sure what more penalty could possibly be imposed. Of course, continuing with the narrative of a couple of rednecks torturing and murdering a man because he was homosexual while completely ignoring any possible angles of a drug deal gone bad or just plain old robbery of opportunity serves political purposes....but does nothing to advance the accuracy of truth you use as an excuse to pick nits with others.

Of course, this has nothing to do with the OP as even our moderator has posted that he "concluded from the beginning that the OP was a female."

I dare you to suggest Grapeshot was at all motived by homophobia. I find our moderator is far less tolerate of such things directed his way than he requires common members to be of such tripe directed towards us. I dare you. Impugn our mods motives the way you have impugned mine, for exactly the same conclusion/inference.

finally, whom are the usual welcoming committee, your backhanded insult is directed towards me...sorry i am a johnny come lately, so you were saying about the usual members??
If the shoe fits, wear it and deal. If it doesn't fit, don't cram your foot in and then complain about it being uncomfortable.

In other words, it isn't all about you and you haven't a clue. ("you haven't a clue" has been officially ruled as "not a personal insult" by our moderator and I don't intend any personal insult, merely my observations and opinions based on what you write.)

sorry Charles, i refuse to allow you to continue using me to glean your negative attention out here so i shan't continue this discourse where your written word continues to be your down fall.
