I've been cleaning up the mess that accumulates around my brass tumblers in the basement today. Which got me thinking about lead. After doing some reading about the lead that accumulates in tumbling media, I've decided to move that part of my reloading / case prep out to the barn.
So I've been thinking about lead and the rights of all involved and I can honestly say that lead (and trace amounts of other heavy metals) is the only rational concern that these people could have.
If the range operator can satisfactorily show that he will be containing all the lead dust, then its a done deal.
If he's going to run it like some of the small, old ranges that I shoot at, with nothing more than a food service fan at the far end of the range, with a furnace filter in front of it. Then the parents concern would be valid.
The ranges I have in mind are all 60+ years old and in rural areas with lots of acreage around the range. So its of no concern.
