I see some here are and have been open carry for years here in Maine. I've had some training from the York Country Sheriffs Dept. and they basically say it's not a good idea to open carry because it gives the bad guys an advantage. I for one CC but I feel this is a good cause to get the word out that there are many responsible CCW people walking along side every citizen and just because we carry guns, were not the bad buy or were in some way freaks. We love our country and the rights given us. We just want to protect our loved ones and others around us . Though I don't want to be a replacement to our police, I realize they can't be everywhere all the time. I want all the options afforded to me under our constitution to go home to my family at the end of the day. Looking forward to meet many folks Sunday . Maybe there can be a donation for a charity or maybe fallen police of Portland to go towards their families.
God Bless America.

Open a separate thread on this and I'll give you some interesting data.

Suffice it to say that OC gives the good guy the advantage, not the bg.

Anything that generates positive interaction and good will with local LEO is commendable.

What I'm actually going to do is accept donations and I'm going to start a bank account under the name of something like "Maine OC/CC Fund" and we can basically use it for any other events that we hold or make donations to charities. For now I will be the only one with access, but perhaps we could start a small club or organization of some kind for the furthering of the rights of Maine citizens? opinions?

And as stated before there are pro's/cons to everything that we do in life, OC vs. CC is no different! Don't take my opinion or that of 1 or 2 people, research, research, research and form your own opinion based on facts! That way you can feel strongly about your position and also know more about it! :)

I didn't get the word until last night but I will try to make it.

I was told that there will be some anti-gun antagonists crashing the party, hopefully the PPD takes care of any anti-gun activists that assault anyone. Forgive me if you mentioned this previously but everyone participating needs to be prepared to be antagonized by activists even to a physical level, they may try to get someone to draw on them, spitting, flailing or lunging at them. Hopefully they won't stoop to that level but be prepared. Because this is going to be closely monitored by the PPD they should be able to handle any situation that may arise.

Anyone who is interested in taking any firearms classes in the area can PM me. I offer classes in various disciplines and would be glad to work with any open carry members who would like to become safer and more proficient in using and handling firearms. I encourage open carry to all my students, as well as having a concealed permit to further protect you legally.

Keep up the good work!

Great job today everybody!! I had a great time and it was good to meet everybody. I look forward to the trash pick up and when we can do something like this again! The more we do it, the more accepted it could become.

Agreed. Do something for the community will not only get the word out and good exposure but also doing a good deed for the city is a big plus. Maybe raise funds for a good cause or for the Open Carry rallies.:celebrate
