Good result in Winnemucca.

Was in Khoury's a few minutes ago with a 1911 strapped on in plain site. Nobody even mentioned it to me. I had the opportunity to talk with the store manager at my choosing concerning how she felt about OC'ing in her store. Her reply was simple, polte, and to the point. Don't be showing your arse and I have no problems! When walking out of the store, I saw a city officer and he noticed the gun. I walked over to him and we got to talking about OC'ing in the city. He is FOR OC'ing and said he would wave to me whenever he saw me from now on, lol. I was a bit hesitant about OC'ing here, but naow have a different viewpoint about this city.

I went to the Century Parklane movie theater here in Reno and was denied entry due to my open carry. When the manager finally came down, she told me that it is private property and they can do as they please. I got a refund for my ticket and left. I went to the Sparks one the day before and they had no problem or at least did not mention it.

Back when I was about 20 I went with my family to the Sparks Century theater and was open carrying, nobody said anything as we went into the movie etc. 30mn into the movie 3 of their workers came into the theater with small flashlights and started walking up the stairs looking at everyone in the isles. My mom as in the bathroom and coming back one of them recognized her and told her they were upset etc. So I got up and went and talked to them, they were FREAKING out and had already called police, saying I was going to be arrested etc. I tried to reason with them explaining I was doing nothing wrong and I would gladly leave if that's what they requested. The 16 year old kids were trying to get huffy puffy about how they hate guns, I then asked them if they hated guns so much why they would be in the face of someone carrying one?? This was met with silence. I left, called their corporate office and explained the situation that they were fully aware of at that point. I was then issued a refund for all of our tickets, and 25 free tickets good at any of their theaters.

Another incident was at Home Depot on South Virginia (near Meadowood Mall). Again same age, was just in doing some shopping and the store manager comes sprinting down an isle at me, quite honestly thought he was going to tackle me. He again freaks out about how illegal it is, and how I have to leave and how he is some hot shot at 28 years old and has opened stores in 10 states and its always illegal etc. I very calmly explain to him it is completely legal in Nevada (this was his 2nd week in the state). I advise him how he is completely wrong and I will gladly place the gun in my car while he gets his corporate people on the phone. Needless to say within 10mn he was told to never confront a customer in the same way, and I was offered a $250 gift card for how he handled the situation.

I'm now 27, and have been carrying concealed since the day after I turned 21. But now with all the gun control BS I am sure thinking about having a few days of open carrying just for the interesting situations you end up in. Quite honestly all but those two situations were positive, people asking about its legality and having genuine questions. Never was much of an issue, I assume it has a lot to do with your overall appearance honestly.

Grapeshot,

Just wanted to let you (and all) know that I ran into that oc guy again at Walmart that I posted about like 2 weeks ago and this time....... I had time to pass on the info about this site. He has never even heard of opencarry.org. We chatted for a bit about how we wish more people would oc and how we both avoid places that forbid it like Costco. We both HATE Costco only for that reason.

Anyhow, just wanted to let you know.

Re: Where did you carry today and how did it go?

Am I allowed to discuss a concealed carry story? Oh well, here goes. I had a hankering for some lemon creme cookies and milk, so I grabbed my wallet, keys, cell phone, and my .40 caliber Springfield XDM (in an IWB holster). I went to the gas station across the street, bought my milk and cookies, and went back home. Pretty ordinary as far as gun carrying goes.

OC'd the AR-15 today at the official Day of Resistance rally up here in Reno. I'm bad at estimating numbers, but I'd guess 400+ people there, many armed, and I was one of about 20 with a rifle slung over my shoulder. It was a damned good day to be OC, a damned good day to be an American, and a damned good place to be.

Well, allowed is one thing.

Relevancy is another.

Yep.

I too was there with my wife and 3 shorties. Both the wife and I were OC'ing. Cold day but felt it was worthwhile.

Passing thru Nevada this weekend on my way to Oregon. Oc'ed the whole trip. Stoped in Elko for fuel not even a look. Stopped in winnemucca at the Walmart. A couple people noticed but no reaction, untill in the check out line a uniformed sheriff came up behind me to check out. She was not armed and seemed nervous. I tried to speak and say good morning but she looked nervous and stayed back from me. But no problems.

That was actually a bit funny with the deputy at Wally World. I live here in Winnemucca and am OCing just about everywhere now. I have had talks with both the police chief, who I actually happen to be good friends with and the sheriff here. Seems I should hold another audience with our sheriff, who, not a couple months ago wrote a letter to our elected President saying that he would not enforce any gun law that may be passed in the near future to further suppress our rights! May I add that this letter got a lot of people a bit upset with him, too.
On another note, I am waiting word on how one of the local casinos feel about OC. I asked an asst. manager about this and she smiled and said she was having a meeting with the manager and would definitely get back with me via phone when she has the answer. I will post the answer here when I have it.

I needed some running shoes so went to the Nike store on Eastern. Tried a lot on, even jogged up & down an aisle and jumped a little bit with them on testing them out. Through the total process (tried on 5 pairs), 2 roaming employees asked how I was coming along and if I liked any of them. We chatted a bit about the styles and builds of the shoes then he suggested a different pair based on what I was looking for. They definitely noticed my sidearm but none of them cared one bit. Bought a pair and checked out.

Then on to Trader Joes to get some groceries. All good there, the big guy chilling outside didn't say anything (he appeared to be an employee keeping an eye on everything, never seen one at TJ's before).

Went to Del Taco with a buddy of mine, I was not OCing but he was. I've been to this particular Del Taco at Nellis and Stewart a dozen times while OCing and nobody has ever said a word and I've always felt welcome. So this time we're in line waiting to place our order and I hear an older customer say very loudly "what the hell is he afraid of, why does he have a gun" We both ignore it and order our meals. We go to sit down and then the guys wife starts up and says very loudly "I'm afraid, he has a gun" Once again we just ignore it and eat our food. They keep making uncomfortable statements and finally she says "lets go if they are staying here" and they get up and take their food with them. It was very uncomfortable but the employees never said anything and were great as always.

I would have been very tempted to remove my jacket and say in a loud voice: "That's okay; if he starts anything, I'll stop it."

People are weird. If you were truly afraid of the guy with a gun, why would you try to intimidate him on purpose?

This just continues to prove that the average gun carrier is among the most mild-mannered of citizens.

Yeah, This was different since most people just keep to themselves from my experience anyways. We just felt it was best to keep quiet and not say anything. No reason to stir the pot and it worked quite well since they up and left. I just wish the media would give it a break about how bad guns are.

I went to Scooper's Drive-In in Sparks today and ordered my food without incident. As I was walking away from the counter I heard the guy in line behind me say, "I know it's a constitutional right but........" in an attitude filled voice. I didn't catch the end of the sentence because I was walking away. The guy and his friends ate outside on the patio and myself and family went inside. As we left and walked past these guys they shut up and started staring. I smiled, said hi and continued on my way. Scooper's had no issue with me carrying.

Hypocrites

The funny thing about those that do say something.... If you had your pants down around your arse or you were blasting rap or you had your hair purple or your face all tattooed up or you were loud and obnoxious on your cell or you were the loud fat black lady screaming at her kids or any of the other various things we have all seen time and time again that NO BODY ever says anything about, they'd just be silent. Oh, but carry a gun and they find it acceptable to say something stupid! But just like they said in Easy Rider, "Everyone preaches freedom, but when they actually see it, it scares the Hell out of them."

And funny too because none of those other public displays would even be possible were it not for the 2A. And they just don't get it. Ticks me off. I actually look forward to the next time I get to shove it back in the face of someone who finds it acceptable to be rude to me for exercising my 2A.

Meeting rudeness with rudeness reduces you to their level - like wrestling with a pig in the mud...the pig loves it.

Excerising self-control is the more responsible and effective response - recommending smiling a lot and saying, "Have a nice day." It works quite well, thank you.
