The man is a typical Chicago party machine hack politician. His comment is like saying banning cigarettes nationwide will prevent black lung disease in southern Illinois coal miners. The only state I visit where I flat feel unsafe is Illinois. Even if I had an Illinois CCW I would not feel safe in IL. IL is generally speaking the anus of the midwest. I say this as someone who lived there in the north, central and southern parts of the state at different times for about 19 of my first 27 years of life and currently live within minutes of the state.

Diver, you're killing me. Illinois is absolutely 'the anus of the midwest.' All humor/truth aside on the matter, I think when Obama said that, he was saying it as a Senate candidate from Illinois. As a presidential candidate, he knows that to go around spewing that kind of crap would kill his chances of getting elected. Just look how much his tune has changed since then. You can say that kind of shit to Illinois residents and the dickheads in Shitcago will eat it up and vote for you and that's enough to get you elected. But the people in the southern and western states wont have any of it and he knows it. For any candidate to try that would be political suicide. Look at how a lot of the Dumbocrats who voted for the assault weapons ban were tossed out of office in the next election. The same would happen and they know it. The problem with Ted Kennedy is that his last name is Kennedy. He's already proven he can get away with murder and still be elected. But he's a douche anyways and completely irrevelant. I think people keep him in office because they dont feel like paying for his rehab bills.
