You didnt specify what type of range. Indoor handgun isnt my favorite i do it for practice but its not much fun. There are two very nice skeet/trap/sporting facilities nearby.

This is a park located west of fairfax along I66. They rent shotguns and its a nice place. The trap/skeet area is geared toward beginers, their clays course is nice.

Pg shooting center (formerly berreta) is a bit further away but is VERY nice. Im a bit snoby on public ranges but i dont mind shooting trap (and even skeet!) there. They also have a beatiful 100 target clays course.

Both ranges offee rentals. I think pg is a bit nicer but i go to both and either would be more fun than being stuck in a little lane on an indoor pistol range.

Since you plan on renting firearms from the range, look in Maryland too.... maybe you can find a range that isn't too far from a Metro (subway) stop. I think Gilberts is in Rockville MD... but I don't know how close that is to a Metro stop.

DC Area Metro Rail Maps: http://www.wmata.com/rail/maps/map.cfm

I live 10 minutes from Gilberts in Rockville and would NEVER go to that range Reasons:

1. You are forced to buy an overpriced membership
2. You are forced to purchase and use their extremely overpriced ammo.
3. The staff is surly and juvenile

Other than that it might be ok.:D

I go to the NRA range or my Izaac Walton League

'Other then that Mrs Lincoln, how was the play?' LOL!

Good information, thanks. I've never been to Gilberts, or even heard much about the place.... I just knew they were up that way.

Though a lot of people dislike Blue Ridge Arsenal, it *is* a range in the area. I shoot there periodically before work (yes, I have a membership). If I meet you there, you can use some of my toys and only pay $10/hour for the time. And we can get Starbucks after and talk about NH (I have a place up there already - waiting til retirement to move).

You should come by and visit me at work - Nova Armament in Herndon. I'm sure we can hook you up with something you can't live without.
