I had to say LEO, because they are the only ones i've ever had a really negative experience with.

Funny thing is that my mother in law does not bother me about OC, but she doesn't think that my wife should. I don't think that she sees my wife as a competent adult.

Was at a dinner at their house, and my mother in law was telling my wife that she sees why I carry, but not why she carries, and that my daughter (who is just about 3 months old) is going to shoot herself.:quirky I intervened by telling her in a very firm tone, that whether my wife carries or not is up to her and nobody else, and that I do NOT want her bothering her about it again.

She shut up for a few hours, then started in on it again when she thought I wasn't listening, but since I was, I quickly stood up, which grabbed her attention, and told her that it was NOT UP FOR DISCUSSION. She hasn't bothered my wife about it since.
Good job!!! I never understodd the "you shouldn't have a gun because of kids being around" garbage. When people say that it's actually insulting the gun owner as a parent.

I think it comes from the idea that guns can walk around, load themselves and then jump into children's hands. This is, of course, regardless of the competence and responsibility of the owner. Guns can also unlock safes btw.

Yeah, I personally felt very insulted by her comments.

But my in-laws tried to pull all kinds of BS when I first married my wife.

Including accusing me of stealing tools that he later discovered he had misplaced.

Me and my father in law had it out pretty good once, and ever since then he has become quite an ally. My mother in law is a different story though.

Yeah, my step-mom once tried to make me question my own choice to own guns by telling me she knew that my ex didn't like havin guns around - and implied that that was part of the reason why my first marriage didn't work.

My instantanious reply was "If that's true then why did she keep a Colt 38 for her car and a 9mm for her house?" (as if, after more than 10 years together,I wouldn't know how my ex really felt about guns - WTF??!??)

She has never tried to pull that crap again.

Hehe, as i have experience with in laws and with step parents, More then my fair share I think. The thing I know about them is that you really have to put your foot down sometimes, and HARD.

They have to respect you as an adult. And they wont respect you if you don't assert yourself once in a while.
