As for this section below...

under Section 5:
(4) other than shotguns, a firearm that discharges two or more projectiles with one activation of the trigger or other firing device.

They shoudl re-word that to be sure it includes ammunition such as snake-shot manufacturered in North Carolina and similar, otherwise, legal ammunition

This is similar to the recently passed laws in Montana and Tennessee. There are currently 8 other states with such bills in Legislature, but it's hard to tell if they will pass as easily.

The BATFE hates these laws, and has sent letters to FFLs in MT and TN telling them that they must still abide by Federal law, and they plan to enforce it...

I don't know of many firearms manufacturers in NC, other than Para Ordnance. But if I could buy my future Para's under such a law, it would make me a very happy camper...

MSAR (Mircotech Small Arms Research) is in the process of moving down here. Right now they have half their operation in PA (at least I think it's PA) and half here in NC. They make one of the AUG clone bullpups, the STG-556 and also the AR-15 mag compatible E4 variants for those of you who don't know.

I personally think it'd be awesome to be able to grab a FA bullpup with a 14" barrel that is shorter than a 10.5" AR. (I didn't read the actual article but I'm guessing that it actually keeps FA stuff out of our hands, at least for the time being, but such a weapon sure would be fun)

Now as to the effectiveness of such laws. My opinion is that they don't do anything, at least not immediately. Eventually the constitutionality of the commerce clause and how it is being applied to everything may be challenged based on these laws but AFAIK no cases are pending to address this. Another important effect of these laws being passed by the states is to show the Feds that "we" (both the people, and the states) are sick of being told how to do everything by the feds. Again this is my own opinion but if a majority of the states pass legislature like this it sends a strong message to the federal government and hopefully they'll rethink their then unpopular opinion and change how they do business without having to have a costly and drawn out court battle.

Oh man, it's too funny. California, I think, left a giant hole open for Federal LEA's to operate within their state (example regarding the marijuana wars between state-sanctioned sales and federal LEA regulation). In North Carolina, BATFE as for any other LEA, have no legal recourse to operate within the state without being given permission and working in conjunction with a local LEA. State LEA's would be at odds with their own state law to help a federal agency enforce laws that contradict state laws. It would be an interesting show down indeed, if it were to ever pass, I hope our state legislature and LEA's stand by it.
