I will be moving to NC on 6/15/2015 to the Cornelius, Davidson, Huntersville area. Are any of you close by, and can we get an open carry breakfast, lunch, dinner going? I will be glad to do the "legwork."

We are now running on a new, and hopefully much-improved, server. In addition we are also on new forum software. Any move entails a lot of technical details and I suspect we will encounter a few issues as the new server goes live. Please be patient with us. It will be worth it! :) Please help by posting all issues here.

I just moved here, but am unfamiliar with places that wouldn't mind having open carry breakfasts, lunches, dinners, etc. As you may imagine, I am pretty nervous open carrying having come from NJ. But, if a group of us could meet, it would assuage my fears. Should I send you my email, etc. via a private message to you?

Welcome!! You made a complete 180 didnt you? From the commie wealth of NJ to a somewhat more Liberty friendly NC. Read up on the laws, ask questions and go have a ball OCing and enjoying your new found freedoms.

Getting Depressed
Listen, I know I have to do the legwork.
But, it has been somewhat disappointing. I have made a few contacts in NC, and everyone has given me a "hands down" response to my suggestion of an open carry breakfast, lunch, dinner, picnic, etc. It honestly seems as if most do NOT want to open carry, only concealed carry.
Admittedly, I am very very nervous to open carry without a few others, at least at first. You know, strength in numbers. Remember, I am from from NJ. Don't take this lightly.

I live in Sherrills Ford, NC. I moved from PA which is also an open carry state. I can understand your reluctance to open carry, being from NJ, but the more you open carry, the more comfortable you will become. Read the laws/regulations and know them well. If you want to get together, send me a PM. I have open carried in PA and NC for the last 20 years and have NEVER had any issues with law enforcement or civilians.

We used to do meet ups in and around the Charlotte area, last few I went to were at 5 Guys at Northlake Mall. Interest kind of petered out as the main organizer ended up moving out of state. If you put a plan together in the sub forum, may get some people to attend.
Actually think I saw one in the Events sub-forum that is actually not too far away from you (unless you consider the Lenoir area really far)

I live in Mooresville, I open carry on my motorcycle when going to and from work, sometimes on the weekend when I ride depending on where I'm heading to, still trying to get use to it also, been in the local Food Lion by my house a couple times while OC, Gander Mountain, couple gas stations.

Welcome to the TarHeel State. Hopefully you aren't one of them yankees that comes down here then pulls for the wrong basketball team (hint: It's Duke).
Don't worry about carrying openly in this state! Follow the law and posted signs of course, but no one is going to say much if anything to you. If they do say something typically it's going to be questions about what gun you have, or what caliber is and other things of that nature. I often get in conversations with others that openly and conceal carry when I go out.
When I first started carrying openly I was nervous about it like you are now but this quickly went away. I still stay alert (don't want someone taking it off of me) but as far as the general public goes I'm relaxed with it on my hip now. Just be an upstanding member of the community and you'll do fine, most down here are very friendly and you'll find it a bit different than it was back in NJ.
I would meet up with you but it would be a bit of a drive for me and I'm busy at the moment with life. Hopefully some day I'll make it to one of these meet ups. Check out the sub-forum the other guys have linked to I'm sure you can find some people in your local area.

With 2.1 seconds left in overtime, Christian Laettner hit a 2 pointer that beat Kentucky in 1992. I was watching on TV, and it took my breath away. Any way, I am nervous about open carrying specifically because I come from the "Peoples Republic of NJ." It would help greatly if I could open carry with a few amigo's the first time. Kind of break the ice. If I were ever stopped by law enforcement, I would probably "freeze up" at the most basic question. But, I have to take the first step sometime. Thanks for the advice, though.
