That's because they let them keep some weapons .... maybe taking away cutlery and other things that could be used as weapons. (the mind of the antis ~ its a confused jumble of neurons)

26. Mexicans have the right to own guns, but few do.
"Mexico’s constitution guarantees citizens’ right to own a handgun and hunting rifles for self-defense and sport. Legally getting your hands on one, however, requires clearing a series of bureaucratic hurdles far stricter than in the U.S. and, for many customers, traveling great distances to reach the country’s lone gun store."

"In fact, most of Mexico’s 120 million inhabitants probably don’t even know about the Directorate of Arms and Munitions Sales – it’s prohibited from advertising any of its goods or the mere fact that it exists."

27. CBS: Mexico murder rate 5X higher than U.S. despite strict gun control.
"Mexico has “restrictive” gun control — including comprehensive background checks — and a homicide rate over five times higher than the rate in the U.S."

"According to the University of Sydney’s Gun Policy center, Mexico has “restrictive” gun controls. And while there is “a right to private gun ownership” in Mexico, it rests on a “conditional guarantee” that can “limited by statute law.” Such law means Mexican citizens are limited to owning rifles of .30 caliber and smaller, revolvers of .38 caliber and smaller, and semiautomatics of 9mm and smaller."

"Most of the high-homicide areas in Mexico are found along the US border, and to a certain extent reflect the work of drug cartels working to keep drug trafficking channels open to the US."

"And yet, right across the border in the US, homicide rates are remarkable low. In fact, homicide rates along the US side of the border are significantly below the US average."
I always enjoy pointing this out to people who are certain that the U.S. border zone is awash with blood because of immigration from Mexico.
