I...Don't Know, What Does SB 610 Mean For Us

In my not so humble opinion SB 610 is merely a bone being tossed to gun rights groups that will only affect a very small portion of the gun community while staying off the radar of the rabid gun control groups so that the legislature can say they actually did something pro gun for the 2nd Amendment groups and those pro gun groups should be suitably grateful and vote for them......

Maybe I'm wrong..... And I'm sure I'll hear from those who think catching such a bone of an almost (in my opinion) insignificant advance is better than nothing...........

As always Bikenut, I find your views spot on. No knock against MI Pro gun groups, but until they become highly organized with thousands of members & a war chest for lobbying, I see no good news for gun carriers in MI's near future. Sadly, the only thing that Lansing seems to pay attention to is $$$$. Let's face it most pro2A groups in MI are poor. Money talks, the rest gets walked right out of the legislative hall. :(

I agree with you, This is a step in the right direction albeit a small one, and no where near the goal of constitutional carry. We have 3 local groups in the state. The 3 'get along' for short times for picnics and such but the members of the groups snipe other groups. There is little unity and less within the gun culture here and that is are weakness.

Have to disagree somewhat, and no not just out of habit :p

I think this year has seen a lot more than just "get along" for short times and it will continue into the future. I see the three groups coming together more as time goes on and while each has their own focus, they are all coming to realize that we must stand united and put past differences behind us if we are to make any real change here.

No worries, I am not thin skinned EZ, I have little doubt that the leaderships of the groups are getting along, The rank and file don't have the same goals however.
And to FreeInAz's point if you add up the memberships of the 3 groups in Michigan and don't take into account the dual or tri-memberships how many people would that be? 1500 3000? that is .4-8 percent of CPL holders in the state. We need to do better.

Since I agree with freeinaz, let me share the good news.

Non NFA items, regulated only as pistols

CAI now has one for AK pistols too http://www.slickguns.com/sites/default/files/snappap.jpg

And while it can't have a stock, we can do the NFA paperwork and taxes and get AOW shotguns, such as Serbu Super Shorty.

Every one of these can be carried as pistols.

I hope SBRs and SBSs become legal in Michigan. Just silly not to. Hopefully this will pass.

I suppose if we were able to own a proper SBR it would, by MI law, be a 'pistol' again, right? All they changed was the 'length' requirement when they changed that one I think.

I think so too. They would meet the registration requirements again as pistols. Hahaha left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing again.

The majority of the so-called, Pro-2A folks, didn't give a shyte about the enactment of SB 760, 761 and 762 -- most likely due to the grandfather clause -- why should this be any different?

Wouldn't we still have top get the NFA 200$ stamp to purchase, say a 12" barrel for an AR?
For a federally recognized SBR or SBG, yes. My hope is to be able to get what the feds say is NOT an SBR, the Paratrooper carbine. Which, according to current Michigan law, IS an SBR.
