I simply select the proper holster. Leather in dry weather, composite in wet. The leather will hold moisture

(skipping reading most of the replies as they are pointless.) Simple answer is that all firearms are weather resistant, not proof. In other words any firearm exposed to the elements and just left alone will eventually corrode. So the simple answer is take care of it. I've had my XD ground in the mud, splashed with rain, splashed with salt water from both the sound and the ocean and it is in excellent condition for having a couple thousand rounds through it or so. I have a variety of holsters, including a leather one that I use.

When you use it, clean it and give it a light oiling. When it gets muddy, wet or otherwise dirty, clean it and give it a light oiling. I don't worry if any of my firearms get wet and nasty. I simply clean them and give them a light oiling. Break-free is some wonderful stuff and it doesn't take much.

Well, yes. I suppose you are right. Pointless is worse than redundant.

But, how did you know they are pointless, unless you read them?

...2) carry concealed - ...

Guns do worse against your skin (even through shirts and lightweight holsters) than they do exposed to the elements. Nice try, though. You've already admitted you don't OC, so from where are you drawing your experienced opinion?

My FN Five-seveN is already "weather resistant," as it has a polymer frame, and even polymer magazines.

Yes it does. We used to make fun of Carpenter bags made of nylon, we called them "Disco Bags".

I will never go back to leather bags again (I now wear disco bags....), winter time or much of the time here in Washington, they hold a lot of water, making them heavy and uncomfortable plus all the other things that leather does when abused by the elements.

All my leather is treated, one pound beeswax, one cup boiled linseed oil, one cup turpentine makes a good waterproofing that works on canvas and leather.
