Well, I bought one, and I must say for the price it is a *nice* jacket! I can see why they charge $200+ for the models that actually sell (i.e. not brown :p). Easily worth the $80 or so I paid.

Edit: the price has gone up since I ordered... 5.11 Tactical 5-in-1 Field Jacket - BROWN - CLOSEOUT
I ordered one a week and a half ago:p

I actually like the brown, and at over $150 off... How could I resist?

They have the brown version available in every size (for now at least) at nearly as low a price.

I think I may just buy one. I might even get a VCDL logo put on the ID panels. Either that, or just CITIZEN. :D

How do you like it for OC? is it short and tight enough at the bottom to easily put behind a gun? Warm enough for a cold Michigan winter?

I agree; after receiving mine, I have decided the brown is actually really nice.

It has zippers going up the sides so that you can actually put your belt holster "through" the jacket and zip it up behind your gun.

The jacket becomes quite substantial when using the the whole thing (fleece liner + sleeves and the outer jacket), and my guess is it would be fine for Michigan winters, if you're anything like me. Here in the Bay Area, there's no way I could use the fleece liner at any time of year, with or without sleeves.

This is a really awesome jacket. Even at $100 it's still an inredible bargain.

Have a holster pocket sewn in your insulated overalls. That, or use a low slung holster over your pants, so you can draw it through the hand slit in the side.

I grabbed up a thigh holster myself, and really don't like it, just seems like it is too much. The tac jacket options are nice, but living in the land of big ass lake effect I prefer my Carhart. I really have been wanting a cowboy rig and have looked high and low but have yet to find one for anything other then revolvers. Has anyone come across a cowboy similar rig that works on automatics?

I specifically carry a Glock 23.

Question for Marshaul and David (and anyone else who purchased one); How does it fit compared to the sizing chart online? I think I'm either a S or M based on the "Shirt" sizes, but I've never been able to fit into a S before. I am thus confused.

I prefer an XL size T-shirt, and I got the "Large" size 5.11 jacket. It fits quite nicely.

I actually followed the sizing chart I found, with good results:
http://www.gtdist.com/511-sizingchart-all.htm

Edit: Oh, I see you're looking at a chart too. Well, I'm not sure what to tell you, other than that when I bought the jacket I was very dubious about what size to buy (it is quite a substantial jacket with the lining in place, after all). But, I bought the size recommended by the chart, and the fit is perfect. Good luck.

OMG $30. That is a ridiculous price. Anyone who can wear the sizes they still have in stock and doesn't buy one is a fool.

Edit: I see only the XS is $30. The S, M, and XXXXL are still $80. Oh well, still worth it.

Thanks for the info! I'm in between S and M so I guess I'll give M a shot.

Hmm. That sounds bad now that I read it altogether.

I live in wisconsin near milwaukee where theres a good chance of getting arrested if ya open carry so I only carry on my own property. BUT for carrying in winter I got a good idea for ya!! COVERALLS, just buy a pistol belt put your holster and mag puches on it and then just snap it on tight over your coveralls that should work.

I purchased the M. This is a very nice jacket. I've worn it out and about a few times already.

It's much more substantial and form fitting than some of their other jackets that I had the chance to try on.

OC'ing is simple right now, but here in WY, they say the winter lasts 8 months. It will snow, and it will go below 0 degrees... So I think I'm gonna need to wear a coat. how could I get around this problem, that is without freezing my butt off
This won't work for folks living in other states, but in Wyoming it is simply not big deal if your coat flops over the gun. Nobody will notice, and - most important - nobody will care as long as you don't do something stupid with it.

I open carry all the time, all year, everywhere I go and even at home. Sometimes I wear a coat too. :)
