At the pubic library

I was just approached by the security guard at the library. She FINALLY noticed I was carrying. She came up to me and said "Excuse me, could you come with me so I can talk to you?" I said "No, we can talk right here.". She said I needed to cover up my "weapon". I told her I didn't. That would be askig me to break the law. She was confused. I suggested she make herself familiar with state laws. She said she would and walked away. I am wearing my voice recorder... We'll see what happens...

Time on VOX now: 56 minutes....

Howdy Everybody

Hello fellow OCers!! I am new to these forums and wanted to say hello! I picked up a Sig 1911 Nitron Rail back in November, and got a S&W 642 for the ol' lady the next month. I started OC on occasion about a month ago, and now have been doing so much more. I have to say at first I was kind of nervous since I was new to OC and wasn't sure the kind of reaction from people I would get. Thanks to this thread you guys had made me more comfortable with it since there weren't too many bad experiences posted on here. So far I have not had any bad experiences. Thanks to you guys I think I now know how to professionally express why I OC if asked. To me that is the most important thing in order to keep the OC 'image' a good clean one. My favorite answer to date is the "because a cop is too heavy".

Anyways had a good day OC today. Went to Red Wing Park off of General Booth for the dog park area. To my surprise it was actually busy, and I didn't even get a second glance. After the park went to Petsmart on S. Plaza with no problem. Brought the dogs home and headed over to Olive Garden by the Lynnhaven Mall. I think I got a couple second glances but I can never be sure when I have my 5yo son with me, lol. All in all a good day!

Again and thanks!

Welcome! The first month or so of newly OC-ing is an adrenaline rush. After that it becomes like carrying a wrist watch. Try to join a dinner when one gets scheduled and join VCDL. Educate yourself on the law and know where you can an can't OC/carry. I was just a few days ago I got into a conversation with a man about his USP tactical. I forgot to mention that to OC a threaded barrel in some VA localities you need a CHP. So there are a few gotchya's that are hard to find/understand even after reading the text of the law several times. This forum is great for discussing any parts of the law that concern you. (although we are not lawyers and can only offer our best opinion) http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+18.2-287.4

I am a Sig fan but concentrate more on the P220 line than the 1911. I'm sure you will love both guns.

OC-ed to Farm Fresh then to Dick's at the mall yesterday. At Dicks, I ran into DJEEPER while holding my daughters purse as she tried on some clothes. :) Not the most OC-manly presentation but no one joked me with my USP on my hip. ;-)

ETA: OC-ed to Olive Garden and sat strong side out but no issues.

I haven't been open carrying much lately, seems as if the jacket is always hanging over it, but today I did hit Charles Barker Infinity, no one seemed to care that I was carrying, just like every other time I have been there. Northern tool in Norfolk, and the CHKD thrift store while I was looking for a lead furnace (time to start casting my own bullets and looking to see if I could get lucky).

Where to begin... Well....First let me say I was OC with the Virginia Tuck, actually using the Crossbreed holster which I now love, and a double mag pouch on belt at 10 oclock and a spare OC empty hoslter at 9 . Had my dress shirt tucked between my Taurus and the leather, also had black Dickies...neat looking for once.

OC @ RCD Breakfast in Richmond. Lobby day of course! Pierces BBQ, and all throughout Great Bridge while helping my friend hunt for a job. The shopping center on Battlefield across from Hospital including Radioshack, Dollar General, Tobacco 4 Less (real friendly), Video Game Heaven, Red Wing Shoes, and a medical store in there, + many others, I also had numerous chats throughout an hour and a half period with the shopping center security guard, not once mentioning firearms or my OC. Very, very friendly and helpful.

Also OC'd to nearby Priority Honda / Parts Desk (Speak to Sam or T- good bunch of guys)

And then went down to the great bridge shopping center at Battlefield and Cedar. Everywhere from Tropical Smoothie, Radioshack, Lil Ceasars, Dollar Tree, ABC store , and more...

Also the tactical supply store RIGHT BY the Great Bridge draw bridge. No problems anywhere nothing but friendlies all the way. No bug eyes, or comments, untill I got back to my friends apartments... "Why you carry a gun?" Conversation ensued with a few laughs and agreement on needing one where I frequent.

Good day all in all! AND I think my friend Justin will be employed by the end of the business week!!!!!! (Wish I could say the same for myself!)

I'm thinking you'll have a hard time finding anyone crazy enough to engage an armed man carrying a purse.

You know theres a gun shop right down the road from the tactical supply store, it's over the bridge by the CHKD donation place. Battlefield Guns & Ammo, 240 N Battlefield Blvd. (After bridge first light on left)
I know the guy there, I went to their wedding.

Also OC-ed to Atlantic Coast Tumbling last night, no purse in hand.

Yes, I am sorry. I ment Donald, he got married in 2010. Funny thing is he goes to the same church I go to.

I have looked for that shop numerous times lately and was told by two people they closed???

Edit - Must of been a different one... The one I knew of was supposed to be right by Great Bridge Radiator a little farther up and around the turn.

Edit again - I was thinking of http://www.discretionaryfirearms.com/ ...and they moved to the old mulch place where we watch the fireworks at.

Just go over the bridge, take a left at the first light(the new light they installed recently) It's across from the CHKD place. Big sign OPEN with Glock picture.

Grissom Library...

After that post, I had a few very interesting conversations with the security guard and then the librarian. Neither of them liked the idea of OC and tried their best with their favorite arguements ("What about the CHIIIIILDRENNNN", "I'm sure YOU'RE ok, but we worry about someone taking it away from you...", etc) to talk me out of it. I left the library about the time three Newport News LEOs were walking up the front sidewalk. A Sgt. and two "young guys". All three of them looked like they had sucked on a lemon when they saw me leaving. I smiled and greeted them. One of the younger ones said "Hello", but the others ignored me. As I was driving away, I managed to find one of ED's cards in my door-pocket. I turned around and brought it to the librarian. By this time, she was "In conference" with the 3 LEOs and the security guard outside the front doors. I gave the card to the librarian and she thanked me. No wored from anyone else. I promised to return today to "bring her more info". I gave several of ED's new cards to the same security guard. She thanked me with sincerity and went about her rounds. She approached me again a few minutes later (here we go again?) to thank me for the cards and to thank me for the education. She said her department was going to have a meeting and "Special Training" as a result of my visit. I thanked her again and told her to feel free to contact me if she had any more questions.

I'm calling it a positive experience. Just out of curiousity, I may FOIA any and all info (using the Tony's input as an example of "how to FOIA"). I've been here for several hours and have had no problems. Departing shortly. We'll see if it warrants another post later this evening...

who is Ed and how can i get some cards?

Contact him and tell him what you want. Find Ed here

Though he doesn't charge for his cards, all donations to offset his cost is greatfully appreciated. It's nice to supply a self addressed and stamped return envelope too.

Been OCing every day lately. The library is a daily stop. Nothing but friendly smiles from both security guards there. ED gave me about half a box of cards at Breakfast on Lobby Day. Of course, I gave out about half of what he gave me to fellow Ocers before I even left Richmond.

ED: The new cards are beautiful! I'm glad you put your contact info on the bottom of them so it is accessable. My next request will be a SASB (addressed BOX) and donation. I seem to be the local OC Ambassador lately. I think I give out about a dozen cards a day.

Currently at Wendys and gave out a few and had some good conversations. The aesthetically attractive (nevermind that... she's just a SEXY beast!) Kimber is a good conversation starter.
