I want to know what dictionary displays the word 'doughnut' beforre 'dependent' or were you reading it backwards?
Suggested reply:

"Initially I just opened the dictionary on a guess. We cops enjoy the rush of being daring like that. Ended up in the C's. Flipped forward too far into the E's. Started flipping back in little increments and it fell open at the page with doughnut. There's a picture of a doughnut there, sothat page gets a lot of viewing.

Next you're going to ask what dictionary has a picture of a doughnut, aren't you? A children's dictionary, of course. Being paragons of humility, we're not too proud to admit we need a simple dictionary in this office."

I didn't even notice that I had trouble spelling the word 'before' in my earlier post. I guess I should start using the dictionary more frequently than I do!!

I've said it once, I will say it again. Just because a person enters a forum and says they are a cop.... doesn't mean they are one. On the Internet a person can be anything they choose to be.

Furthermore, when identification and verification is required to enter certain areas of "cop" forums, everybody has a friend who will join up and provide credentials for identification to the web site. It still doesn't mean the person who eventually uses the account is a real cop. (Tickles me to death that one cop forum claims to have a foolproof verification process  )
On a Special Forces website that I and a few others here belong to, we DO have a 100% foolproof verification process.
So does the Red River Valley Fighter Pilots Association. It's called a DD214.

Even then, determined people could still fake it. The problem is, unless you actually work for the government agencies that have the ability to verify DD214's you can't tell if someone just scanned a real DD214, altered it, and then printed it out. That would probably be illegal, and not something I'd ever do with my own DD214, but it could be done, unless your RRVFPA has a way to verify it with the USAF (or USN).

As for the SF website, there might be ways to legally verify who the real operators are and deny the fakes without compromising any information. (I'm not SF, have never pretended to be SF,will neverpretend to be SF, and don't have any interest in trying to come to the SF forums. :p)

Let me clarify what I was speaking of in the "verification" processes. Copies of badge and credentials... any 13 year old kid can play the game with photoshop. But there'sseveral cop forums you must submit thename of agency you work for, at which time a phone call will be placed to that agency so as to speak to you. Even ifyou aren't in the cop shoppe at he time, the cop shoppe can take a number and them you call the forum back. Sounds pretty good, doesn'tit? Sounds foolproof, eh? Yeah, to a fool it sounds foolproof.

So, to get around it, you call up one of your best friends who just so happens to be a cop and lives 3 states over from you. You ask him/her to sign up at the various forums, receive the verification phone calls, jump through all the hoops...... and then they can pass on the user name and password to you so you can then go in and out of the private "cop only" areas whnever you want. It is a good idea toask the person to post once in a while so the IP address comes back to his/her state and internet service provider.

I know somebody who did this. And yet the forum still claims their verification process forentrance to the "cops only" area is foolproof. Cops post stuff they should never even consider posting on the Internet, they have a false sense of security with these "verification" processes. :banghead:

I can't think of a single example that is foolproof on the Internet. If I give somebody here my user name and password to my bank accounts, the bank can't keep you out of the data base because you aren't a bonafide customer.

You also need a sponsor for the River Rats, and I'm sure the MAC-V types require that as well.

I could never join a SF forum because I liked hot showers, stag barsand air conditioned quarters...would give me away, I'm afraid...:(
