I don't think that it is lawful for them to do that, but that is what the Mitchell case is about. It is not a crime to bring a gun onto UK's Campus, but if your gun is found you will be disciplined and might be expelled from school. You will not be charged with a crime. This will be clarified by the Ky. Supreme Court soon, but until then, be careful. Mitchell would have been fine if he had kept his mouth shut. He was overheard talking about guns and the person that heard the conversation thought he said he had a gun in his locker. When the campus police came and searched his locker he volunteered the info that his gun was in his car, then he, I assume, gave permission for them to search his car. If you have a gun in your car keep your mouth shut. Better yet, park off campus.
