any experienced .40 reloaders here? im getting started on reloading for my g23 gen4. ive heard all the kaboom stories and switching to lone wolf barrels yada yada but it seems the issue has been fixed. i will be useing berry 180gr fp bullets with winchester primers and No.7 powder if anyone has and suggestions where i would be on a safe side avoiding the kaboom with reloads. im not switching to a lone wolf barrel i will still be useing a stock barrel. ive been thinking at useing 8.4 to 8.9 charge to stay around 900 to 950 fps. i wanna keep it as close to duty ammo as possible without working the brass to much and causeing the kaboom factor. i was just wondering if anyone has experience with the components im useing? what load did you use? how long did your brass last? ect.

I've reloaded 40SW for a few years. For my G23(carry) and G35(competition). I've never been a fan of the 180gn bullet in 40; I lean more to the 'lighter, faster bullet' side. I've had good results with both TightGroup and Win 231. Cases last well as pressures are moderate. Used both new and range pickup brass.

I have reloaded the 40 S&W cartridge in the past. My load was 6.2 grains of AA-5 pushing a Berrys 180 grain plated HP bullet using a Federal primer to get things going. That seems to be a fairly light load compared to factory loads determined by the fact that the empties was a tighter group and closer to the gun compared to factory ammo.
All loading was done on a Dillon SD-B loader.

.40 S&W Reloading Data..

I have in my possession 24 pages of reloading data specific to the .40 S&W cartridge.

Most of the pages have the data broken down into the following categories..

Bullet..
Powder..
Primer..
Case..
Overall Length..
Barrel Length..
Pressure..
Velocity..
Variation..
Deviation..
Energy..
USPSA Power Factor..
Expansion..
Recovered Weight..
25yd Group..
Wound Ballistics..
Etc., etc., etc..

Much of this information was derived using a Glock Model 22 having a 4 1/2" barrel.. among others.

If any of you three are interested (or anyone else), just let me know via this forum and I'll copy the information on a page by page basis and send it to you via a file.
