I am leaving California for good next spring, and I'm going to make it work even if I have to bus tables and wash dishes. But thankfully I have a career that I can take anywhere in the world, so that shouldn't be a problem.

The opposite

My wife and I have good jobs in Washington, but we're planning a move to California. All of her family lives in the Chico/Sacramento area and now that we've got a child, she wants to live closer to them. The idea of moving to California, with the policies and politicians it has, is scary. The saving grace is that we'll be living with her family for a while so she'll be able to stay home with our son.

If finding a job was not an issue would you leave cali. for freedom? Arizona, nevada..wherever?

Finding a job isn't the only hurdle to a major move. Life, both personal and professional, has many loose ends that need tying up before one can just pick up and leave one state for another. But to answer your question, yes I am seriously considering leaving this failing, oppressive state for a free state. But in my case, it will take time and planning, and for a variety of reasons won't be easy.

Overall free state rankings according to a 2009 research study "Freedom in the 50 States":

1. New Hampshire
2. Colorado
3. South Dakota
4. Idaho
5. Texas
6. Missouri
7. Tennessee
8. Arizona
9. Virginia
10. North Dakota

And since you mentioned it, Nevada ranks 24 in the overall standings.

No way in hell. Yeah, things are screwed up but if all the good people leave here, the anti-freedom folks gain an even stronger foothold. And believe me, if we let that happen they won't simply stop at the borders of California. This IS the front line here, people! This is OUR freaking home, and THEY are the ones who need to leave, not us. Drive out the ****heads, and this place can be every bit as free as AZ, VT and AK.

The PRK ranks 47 in overall freedom, is 3rd in unemployment rankings at 12.3% (Nevada ranks #1 at 14.2%), is bankrupt virtually beyond repair, is in a strangle-hold by the public service employee unions, has released thousands of violent state prisoners, and continually launches assualts on the 2nd Amendment (and other BoRs). CA also ranks near the top for taxation, and near the bottom in public education performance.

It probably also has the greatest concentration of socialists in elected positions in the country. And is no longer a trend-setter state, instead of "as CA goes, so goes the rest of the country" now its "the land of fruits and nuts". Other states now look to CA as an example of what not to do.

To make things worse CA has a history of being extremely anti-business to both large and small business forcing many to finally decide to leave. With an overall loss of productive citizens (and businesses leaving) CA is no longer the land of opportunity.

As difficult as it may be, one must face the facts, it'll take generations before this state rights itself and ranks in the top half of freedom let alone the top 10. If you love liberty, you should move.

Now there is an attitude one can admire!

As to the job thing. The employers around my area want someone that has 10 years experience to work minimum wage. They don't want to spend their money training some kid how to do what it is they need done. And I agree with condition. I am not moving because of the laws I am moving because of how many people are in this state. (TO MANY!) But while I am here I am going to stand for my rights and get others to as well. Once I get a job and money then SEE YA! HAHA

I disagree.

If you love liberty, it should be so dear that no sacrifice is too great to make a stand to oppose threats to it...

How valued is liberty you must flee tyranny to attain, compared to liberty that was won through shed tears, blood and strife?

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to ask that question to those who settled this land?

While here, I will take part in defending liberty and do my part to try to get others to think in terms of liberty, but in the end, to loosely paraphrase Davy Crockett, this state can go to hell, I'm going to Texas!

Going, going...

I design new products, usually for new companies. California is non-competitive in every aspect except the weather. My children leave for school in a few weeks. I can then start to sell the bits and pieces holding me in CA.

I strongly recommend New Hampshire for any seekers of true liberty. If you value above all else: peace, freedom, truth, justice, life, liberty, property, treating others with respect + being treated with equal respect, and the precious right to simply be left alone, New Hampshire may be for you. Please click on the "New Hampshire" link in my sig below for 101 reasons to move to New Hampshire. I hope you'll like what you see.
