The final hours of the famed Gilroy Garlic Festival were shattered Sunday evening when a gunman with an assault rifle opened fire on the crowd, killing at least three people and injuring 15 others, according to officials in the bucolic California city 30 miles south of San Jose.
California has an “assault weapons” ban, a Red Flag Law, a ten-day waiting period on gun purchases, a “good cause” requirement for concealed carry permit issuance, a background check requirement for ammunition purchases, and more.

I cut garlic and onions in Gilroy in the summer of 1965, my junior summer. This was after the Braceros, when HS students were hoped to supplant them. Poor California, to have fallen so far.

Fox News said the shooter, a young cis-male dressed in camo, got in to the secure and police protected gun-free festival with a semi-automatic rifle, through a cut in the unguarded but 100% post-consumer recycled and carbon neutral double-strand 8’ tall chicken-wire back fence. Gilroy police were providing security for the event. Police were reported to have shot gun-person dead in ‘less than a minute’, but people said they heard about 50 shots in under-a-minute before police took immediate action to protect the unarmed crowd from the shooter. At least three ethnically diverse and mixed-nationality CA state police officers have ‘opened a full investigation’ to determine if shooter had fully complied with recently-passed tougher CA laws for reduced magazine capacity, and a separate task force of 5 Gilroy budget office staff and 6 CA state sales tax investigators - harmonized for gender diversity and national status diversity were conducting a full audit of the shooter’s financial records to verify compliance with the new CA ‘bullet tax’. The Gilroy City Manager stated that any violations of ALL State and Local revenue laws will result in issuance of tickets and penalties, up to and including liens on the shooter’s estate for revenue avoidance and fines for CA gun law violations.

Gilroy Police Chief Scot Smithee said Santino William Legan, 19, appeared to randomly target people when he fired with a rifle Sunday afternoon, the end of the three-day Gilroy Garlic Festival that attracts more than 100,000 people to the city known as the “Garlic Capital of the World. He said Legan’s motive wasn’t known. Police responded in less than a minute and Legan turned his “assault-type rifle” on the officers, Smithee said. Three officers fired back and killed Legan, who legally purchased the weapon in this month in Nevada.

GFZ are potential killing fields ,regardless of the state .

I see they are studiously avoiding mention of the older male witnesses said was, with the shooter that police have not found.

Tho per Gilroy PD chief...
At a news conference following the medical examiner’s announcement, Gilroy Police Chief Scot Smithee said Legan was shot several times by officers before killing himself. Three officers ran toward Legan and opened fire with their handguns, Smithee said, forcing the gunman to shift his line of fire from crowds of festivalgoers to police. No officers were hit, Smithee said.

Indiscriminate fire while in an adrenaline rush from podunk community PD is always accurate...as NYC PD their accuracy rate during Empire State Building event.

Wondering aloud...anybody do ballistics on bullets of the victims?

Another thought...while never endured being shot...how hard would it be while being shot at and allegedly hit, to carry out shooting one’s self “intra orally” with a semi-auto?

Finally, not to cast dispersions... intra-oral shot was from a semi-auto rifle firearm with a trajectory from a standing position?

It's a,pretty good bet half of the wounded were hit by police, fire at min.

That would never be released however regardless.
