An investigation is underway after a shot was fired inside the Homewood Walmart midday Monday.
The incident happened about 12:30 p.m. at the Lakeshore Parkway store. Homewood police Sgt. John Carr said no one was injured.
The adult male victim, who is from out of state, was at the store with his family, including two children. He was openly carrying a weapon that was in a holster, which is legal in the state of Alabama.
Carr said another man approached the victim and had words with him. As the victim started to walk away, the suspect pulled his handgun and fired one shot.
The two men did not know each other. The interaction was captured on surveillance video.
The suspect then fled the store as Walmart security pursued him, Carr said. He ran across Lakeshore Parkway and was taken into custody by Homewood police on nearby State Farm Parkway.
The suspect’s name has not yet been released pending formal charges.
