So Friday, I pop in to the US Bank located in the Smith's at Tropicana and Jones to make a deposit. I've been banking at this branch since I moved back to Vegas in 2010. As usual, I was OCing, as was my son who also needed to make a deposit. Over the years, I've had no issues with my OC at this location, and in fact have had several positive conversations with the tellers and a previous branch manager there regarding my carry.
Although I've been OCing a long time, my son is very new to OC. While waiting in line he quietly asks me a question about carrying which is overheard by the two individuals standing in line behind us. This prompts a (positive) conversation about carrying and CCW permits, during which I am asked if I am ever hassled about OCing. I tell them that I have only had one significant incident over the many years of carrying, and at this point I believe the conversation caught the attention of the tellers, as we are now at the front of the line.
I step up to the next teller and proceed to start my deposit. A moment later my son is able to approach the adjacent teller station manned by the Branch Manager, Ryan. As my son starts walking the branch manager calls out to me quite loudly that carrying firearms are prohibited in all US Bank branches, and asks both of us not to return next time while carrying. I have a brief conversation with him explaining that I switched to US Bank precisely because US Bank welcomed my OC after closing my Bank of America accounts after more than 20 years for their anti firearm stance. Though polite, he held firm that their policy was strictly no firearms allowed. I obtained his card, and let him know I'd be contacting US Bank corporate.
Pretty standard encounter so far, right? I think most of us have encountered this a time or 2, but now it gets fun...
I arrive home shortly thereafter, and roughly 20 minutes later I receive a phone call from US Bank. This gentleman states his first name (which I promptly forget) from US Bank corporate security, and is calling me to ensure that I cease carrying at US Bank. After relaying the same information that I gave to the branch manager, he became...irritated? fussy? I'm not sure that accurately describes his demeanor. (peeved perhaps? I need a thesaurus!) Once I informed him that I would be contacting corporate, requesting his full name and title he became outright rude and refused to give me his first name, stating "...you can call me Mr. Siess", and then effectively threatened to close my accounts immediately. His title is Assistant VP, Regional Manager of Corporate Security.
Needless to say, I'll be writing that letter to US Bank corporate later today. Will post when I hear back!
