I think that the reason the topic stayed on guns and the situations behind them so much during this first meet with everybody was due to two main things. As ImJustMylan said, there was no real structure to the meet as far as conversation goes, which wasn't a bad thing per se, but it left the conversation open to go anywhere. In turn, it stayed on the subject that had brought everybody there, the fact that we carry guns. So being that this was the first time a lot of us had met each other, I think we tended to stay on the topics that we knew everybody else would be interested in without thinking about how it looked from an outside perspective.

That's just my 2 cents on the matter though. Being that this initial meet is now out of the way, I'm thinking that the second one will go a little smoother as far as conversational topics go. Especially since merc brought it to our attention.

So, look forward to seeing everybody this Saturday at 4.

--snip-- I would be willing to take feedback into future OC meets but this will be my last OC meet before I move to maryland and never be able to do this again.

Hope that all goes well with your move and that you are not doomed to spending the rest of your life disarmed.

Stay in touch.

I have been very reluctant to post this, but after thing long and hard about it, I feel I should. I absolutely do not want this to be taken the wrong way either....

I know I was late getting there, so I was not acclimated to the atmosphere you guys had already created, but the the vibe that was being put out was not a comfortable one. My wife even felt uncomfortable (and she is used to OC). I did notice that a few of the other patrons "seemed" to feel the same way. Then the loitering in front of the doors afterwards, I felt was kind of rude to the business that just accommodated us.

This only the "vibe" I felt, not sure why, I can't put a finger on it. Just thought I would bring it up since we are doing these meets to be "Ambassadors" for OC.

I dont think anybody is gonna take your comments the wrong way... hell I think you are right. I definitely got a "this is awkward" vibe. But I do think a lot of factors played a roll. the biggest 1 being no one really wanted to "take charge" or be the first. when I got there, we were all just standing around looking at each other thinking whats next? whos gonna sit down first? and then when that lady asked about the guns, the same thing.... nobody really felt comfortable being the "spokesperson". and the seating sucked! we all couldnt fit a just 1 table, I felt bad like we were excluding folks.

none of this is anybody's fault, me personally, this was my 1st meet. I honestly had no idea what to expect. I think there were others in the same boat as me too. Thats why I finally turned my chair and started asking the boring questions that I was, hoping to get a convo started..... but now that we all have met and talked about the vibe hopefully tomorrow will go much smoother!

Devils advocate here. I did not feel that bad vibe... And who is to say what we can
Talk about? Did someone forget our right of free speech? And we can't stand around alil after the meet? Comon. Sounds like some are paranoid to me IMO. We did nothing wrong.

I believe the point is that we are trying to establish a good public image for OC'ers and part of doing that is to practice what onlookers would consider good etiquette.

I agree. I don't think anybody in our group was uncomfortable talking about the topics we did. I think they were uncomfortable about outside appearances of it. Which I can understand. Personally, I can talk about guns all day and be perfectly happy. And I think if we were in a different setting, like a range, then it would be perfectly acceptable to keep the topic on it. But I also know that there are others who may be around me that might not be comfortable about those subjects in a restaurant. My girlfriend doesn't like guns, and doesn't really enjoy talking about them. But she's happy that I carry one and know how to use it. But that doesn't mean she wants to hear about it all the time lol.

Respectfully disagree. Good etiquette does not imply minimizing your exposure.

What we should expect to do is conduct ourselves as we would any other time in our daily routines. There should be no difference between being armed and not in our conduct. If we were to never go where we might offend someone, we would never go anywhere.

Frequently some of us will stay and talk on the sidewalk after dinner - never had a negative comment about it either. One particular manager came out and thanked us for being there and asked if we could stay a little bit longer as she would be coming out with the evening deposit. Seems a co-worker had been robbed in that same parking lot 3 days prior.

Suspect that your jitters and sensitivity to "everybody is :uhoh: watching us" will diminish in time. :D

I think we had a pretty good meet today. Not as many people as we expected, just 6 of us. But it was still good none-the-less, I enjoyed it. We'll have to keep the topic open about doing our next meet at a range. I think it'll be fun

Is anybody free to start a new sticky of Charlotte OC Meets and Maintain future events?

I guess I can maintain that since I spend about 20% of my day on the forum. I'll start one first thing in the morning and we can start planning the next meet in a couple of weeks. I'm thinking early to mid December for me. I need time to scrape up some more ammo and range money.

I hope your move goes smooth. Let us know if you are able to visit in the future and we'll schedule a meet during your stay.

Thank you, Grapeshot, here's the link http://forum.opencarry.org/forums/s...lotte-Area-OC-Meet-Greet-and-Event-Discussion

Yeah same here. I wouldn't mind doing another regular meet between now and then, but as far as the range goes, I definitely need some time to get some ammo $$$ together.
