May you drink alcohol in a motor home?

Open container laws apply to all motor vehicles, including motor homes and pickup campers, except motor buses which are vehicles designed to transport people and having a passenger carrying capacity of 16 or more persons and chauffeur driven limousines. LIMOS AND BUSES MUST HAVE A HIRED CHAUFFEUR. No one under the legal drinking age may transport any intoxicants - open or closed.

So.... If I am in a campground in a motorhome I can't have a beer while camping? I assume this is an oversimplification of the actual law, right?

Yes, the silly FAQ's and regulation pamphlets are almost always an oversimplification which is why I cited the actual statute:
346.935
Intoxicants in motor vehicles.
(1) No person may drink alcohol beverages or inhale nitrous oxide while he or
she is in any motor vehicle when the vehicle is upon a highway.

I doubt he's lying, but one wonders why he doens't just enable automatic logon so he doesn't have to see them.

Why did Gleason even have to ask you to follow forum rules by citing to authority? Shouldn't you just do that? You shouldn't need to get "called out" over and over again for not following forum rules. At least you finally did follow them, after prodding.

In any case, there IS a statute.........

*sigh*

In the very least, if you don't have a cite, don't make it sound like what you say is absolutely correct. Say you can't find a cite, (or more likely are too lazy to look for one) and that you THINK you are correct.

One of the biggest reasons this forum is successful is because people cite to authority with which one can be educated on the facts and not the opinions or unsubstantiated claims of other users.

It's not in the rules but it wouldn't hurt to back up some of your opinions with facts either.........

Because sometimes I just jump on to browse quick and actually have no intention of responding. However when information is being thrown out like candy being spilled out of a pin iota I have to speak up and ask for a citation. there are many new members here that need to be sure they are receiving the right information and actually having a cited source so if the time comes they are faced with a situation they can cite the source themselves.

I cited the broader federal authority and not the state statute. Isn't that enough?

The fact is that both Doug and Gleason were wrong and I was right.

And once again, you threw in some personal attacks that had to be deleted by the moderator earlier.

To be technical, Gleason wasn't wrong, he just asked for a citation. He never said you were wrong. Doug was only wrong by reason of semantics. There are various meaning f 'drink and drive'. You pulled out a good argument when you argued that the act of drinking alcohol while driving was illegal (you were right), Doug, I assume meant 'drinking then driving'.

One point for you!!!!

-1 billion for personal attacks, however. So.... I believe your score is negative 1 quadzillion?

Spartacus, Cite your source please! Give us a state statute which prohibits an open container in a vehicle other than that which refers to minors.

Stop making up your own laws and statutes in an attempt to make others here believe that you are the "All Knowing and Great and Powerful OZ." When in fact most of the time you are wrong.

I'm sorry Paul this is more than just asking politely for a citation. This response is supposedly from a cop. I guess I'm all shot through with his hollow points, eh?

Oh, and BTW can I see your drivers license?

I don't see a problem with him asking for a source. There was no attack made, just a request since you always decide to attack people, even after they cite sources.

And Mr. Gleason is not a cop specifically, he works for a prison, so he spends more time dealing with criminals every day than most police deal with in a week.

What I don't quite understand is why Spartacus would make a claim about the law in the first place without also providing a cite at the same time. This is one of the defining characteristics of a responsible forum member.

And why Spartacus would make the drama he does, rather than just provide a cite once requested.

For the rest of the participants, I recommend just requesting the cite while citing, quoting, and linking Forum Rule #5. Here is the format I use:

Cite, please.

Forum Rule #5

(5) CITE TO AUTHORITY: If you state a rule of law, it is incumbent upon you to try to cite, as best you can, to authority. Citing to authority, using links when available,is what makes OCDO so successful. An authority is a published source of law that can back your claim up - statute, ordinance, court case, newspaper article covering a legal issue, etc.

And why Citizen would bash Spartacus without even reading the thread? Thats a better question.

I never cited the state statute but rather gave links to a federal pdf file and a WI State Police memo.

OK we done now good Citizen?

It hurt my feelings and I need a hug.

"COMMENTS REMOVED BY MODERATOR: Personal attack

I seriously hope you have the opportunity to call me that to my face some day Spartacus.
I would have to say that with my Military background and my legal profession, the last thing I could be called is a coward.
But please feel free to call me a coward when in fact you see me face to face.

I have to wonder why a guy like this would even be considered for volunteering for WCI. His comments and behavior in this forum alone shine a negative light on anything he does.

Everyone wonders why it always seems to be the same people at the picnics and events. This is why! No one wants to meet people like him, plain and simple. The new people are just smart enough to see it here first and not subject themselves to it in person.

Well said!! This is why I will not subscribe to a group known by its associates and failed leadership, "consensus". And why I am pleased to never see the face of anonymous correspondents.

With all of his personal attacks, I often wonder how he is still part of this forum.

God in heaven who would want you anyway.
I would much rather be associated with Doug than you.
