I went to subway, and 2 female employees were working. One of them asked what I was carrying and I told her it was my Glock 23. The other female individual asked if I have ever shot it, I said "yes I go to the range often. But I've never used it in a real life self defense scenerio if that's what you meant." She then said she recently got shot in a drive-by incident by where she lives. I asked what area was that and she told me it was behind the walmart. I'm new to this town to I still don't know the bad areas, but I moved out of hidden valley in charlotte so it can't be that bad ;) ... I then advised her to look into purchasing a firearm if she lives in a bad area, and she said that she has been thinking about it.

I think that was a pretty positive experience IMO.

Good job, James, of making a positive impact!

(*THUMBS UP*) Didn't know that Salisbury could be so rough, although we have been in a few sketchy areas up there recently.

That was my initial reaction too... I didn't know this town was big enough to have drive-by's but then again I live out in the country side of Salisbury where cow tipping and mailbox smashing is probably the only thing we have to worry about lol.

i heard on the news the other day that there are 90 different gangs operating in GBO, i think they said 50 in W-S. gangs are always bad in urban areas. and they are trying to copy their big brothers

so who says you don't need a gun?

as an after thought. one of the things i do to explain to people about Guns Save Lives. is how many times my gun has saved my life.
usually they will stop me and say "wow, you must live in a dangerous place". i will laugh, and tell them i literally live in Mayberry and it is one of the safest places in America.

but any where you are that someone can attack you is where you need a gun

Good to be back

Spent two weeks on vacation and couldn't carry in PA or MD, got back yesterday, went to Chic-Fil-A, Jiffy Lube, and Wal-Mart in New Bern, got a "Nice!" and thumbs up from a man in Chic-Fil-A, but no one else either noticed or cared.

Why didn't you carry in Pennsylvania? PA is an open carry state (no permit req) with but a few restrictions (i.e. car carry w/o permit). Presuming that you have a NC permit, it is solves a few of those pesky restrictions.

PA still has state of emergency restrictions to carry, and I believe they are still in a state of emergency from some highway incident. Carry without a permit is restricted during SOE.

Is that over done or half baked?

A highway accident qualifies as a SOE for the entire state? :banghead:

Never have I heard of such a thing. Normally one would think that a SOE would be precisely when one might need the means for self-defense more. What evil genius thought of that? <rhetorical rant>

I can't remember if NC SOE restrictions were thrown out by SCOTUS or circuit court, but if it is SCOTUS it should have made PA's unconstitutional.

Don't have a permit and don't want to get one.

As best as I could tell, you need a permit to travel in a vehicle and driving somewhere, loading and holstering so you can OC is not permitted.

You can OC without a permit only if you walk or take pubic transportation and my family lives a half hour drive from anything.

Open carry report

First time poster here. Read all the time though. First let me say I'm thrilled to finally have found a forum dedicated to open carry. It's nice to see a site out there dedicated to educating the public on our basic second amendment right.

If I cross the threshold of my door,my sidearm is attached to my hip. I've always known N.C. Has always been a relatively friendly open carry state, but it amazes me how very little other resident gun enthusiast know about their right to open carry.

My experience this week end. Wife and I go out for weekly shopping for groceries. Food lion in Dobson, nothing to warrant mentioning. Stopped at sheetz for gas. No one noticed I was carrying, or if they did notice, they didn't care. Returned home to put away groceries, and then off to Walmart in Mayberry to buy more 40S&W ammo. Walked in through Garden center, and proceeded to sporting goods section to make my ammo purchase. Friendly lady working the counter didn't seem to care. Bought 100 round value pack of Winchester 165 grain FMJ target loads, and 50 rounds of .17HMR.

After making my purchase, decided to check out the hunting gear, and apparel. Another fellow apparently had the same idea, and. I noticed through the corner of my eye he was watching me. After about 2 or 3 minutes he approached me and said "excuse me sir, do you mind if I ask you a question?" i knew he was going to inquire about me open carrying. So I offered my hand ablidged him.

Him "How are you getting away with that?"

Me. " how am I getting away with what? Openly carrying my sidearm?"

Him "yes sir, no one harasses you for it?"

Me. "No, I only get questions from those who do not understand it's their right to carry."

Him "oh I understand it's our right, I've just never seen anyone open carry before. I mean I'm with you. Takes a lot of nerve though"

Raises shirt and showes me his concealed firearm.

Him "why not conceal carry?"

Me. "Because I refuse to jump through hoops and pay for the privilege, or request the governments permission to carry when it's my basic right as a LAC to carry openly without the governments permission."

Him "aren't you afraid someone my target you and attack because you're armed."

Me. "if someone decides to jump me from behind, or head on, they will do so knowing 100% I'm armed beyond a shadow of a doubt, and the out come looks bleak for them if that's the course of action they decide to take. With you carrying concealed, there is that 50% chance you may not be armed, and with some that's not enough of a deterent. It's a chance they may be willing to take. If you are attacked from behind, struck in the head unaware, it's bleak for you. The same could happen to me even though I'm open carrying, but it will happen with them knowing 100% I'm carrying."

Him " makes sense, glad there is someone willing to stand up for their right to carry openly."

We parted ways

Left Walmart and went to a buddy's house to warm up the barrel on my sig p229

All in all a good day

Glad to have you onboard and Welcome to OCDO. There are meets posted at the top of the NC thread page would be good if you make it to one of them and meet like minded people  Also there is a Flyer at the top of the NC thread page as well that comes in handy when curious people ask about OC.

Sounds great. May make it at some point. Would be interested in meeting anyone for dinner that may be in the local area.

Was at the Kroger in North Point center in Durham last night. I went into the produce section to get some celery and walked, strong side, past some guy yackin away on a cell phone. As I passed him, he started backing up and telling whoever was on the phone "oh my god that guy has a gun!" I almost laughed out loud, but just went and got my celery and then back to the wife.

Hey BRIK, welcome to the forum. Did I meet the same guy in mayberry Wal-Mart sat. Someone asked me if I get harassed OCing like I do. Told him no, it is totally legal in NC, and VA. He didn't say much after that and then left

If you want to have a M&G I will be happy to come. GC during the week or Snappy's on the weekend?

I will be working the Hillsvile flea market this weekend, but next week will be great
