Home Depot Madison Heights - friendly

Just OC'd in Home Depot and Starbucks in Madison Heights (12mi/I75). H.D. employee was very helpful and very cool about OC. Chatted for a good 10 minutes about experiences. No problems there.

Hey webmaster ... how about creating some sort of matrix or chart, maybe by county/city and business, where people can add and search for OC friendly/unfriendly places? There's tons of locations in the threads but searching them is a little time consuming, though I do enjoy reading the experiences. Seeing them all in a chart by location might encourage people to go to the friendly ones while they're out and about. Just a thought.

MCRGO Has a gun forbidden list.

OT, Jackson Rd Meijers, not much else.

Already exists- I load all the places I find in my area.

I operate under the assumption that ALL places are OC friendly.

As do I. Just because someone may have been asked to not OC doesn't mean someone else will be asked not to OC. In fact, a few years ago I was told not to OC by a night manager at a store that is thought of as one one of the most "open-carry friendly" establishments. If I had posted that information and people had avoided OCing there, that would not have been as helpful as me being able to point out the apparent discrepancy in their policy. OC everywhere legally allowed.

I open carried yesterday as Yooperlady and I went out to eat at KFC in Clio for supper just because Yooperlady didn't want to cook (which is the prerogative of every woman who ever walked the earth).... and... as usual the manager Tom was extremely cordial and happy to see us.

We ordered our meals and left $5 to apply to the bill of the next person who walked in like we generally do (a word about that $5 for the next person... Yooperlady and I are far from rich with living on our fixed retirement incomes but we like to share anyway and it isn't all because we are being generous... there is the factor that it is hard for even an anti gunner to be mad at an open carrier who just paid for part of their meal)... got our food and sat down to eat..

Well...

The first person who walked in said they would rather leave that $5 for someone else...

The next person who walked in also said they would rather leave that $5 for someone else...

And a young family with little kids ended up being the grateful recipients of that $5.

So folks... want to win others over to the right to bear arms? Want to make open carry accepted as a normal everyday thing? The courts aren't the only avenue open for influencing people....

I haven't posted in a long time, but I've been working and staying home so nothing exciting happened . . . until today. Today I noticed my CPL expires in 2 days, so I went to the Wayne County Clerk's. The satellite office in Westland to be precise.

At the county clerk's I was told that since my CPL was issued in another county I could not renew it in Wayne County unless I had a local NRA approved training certificate. This boggled my mind as I know of no such requirement in the law. In fact, there is no such requirement.

Luckily when I posted my tribulations on the MOC facebook a number of lawyers were recommended to me. I contacted one Terry Johnson, who was very helpful. Terry contacted the gun board, who contacted the clerk's office, and Voila, they suddenly followed the law!

So, a big THANK YOU to Terry Johnson for getting this cleared up so quickly!

(Also, the Wayne Co. Sheriffs that I spoke with were very polite and agreed that the clerk's office was in error, but said they could do nothing about it. They did try to talk to the manager. Unfortunately she didn't listen.)

Good stuff Bikenut.

I OC often at the local subway. The first time I went in I thought the gal was going to faint. I smiled, paid for my meal & sat down to eat. She quitely walked over to me and timidly said "Sir you forgot this $5 bill on the counter." I smiled and said no it's for you. She got a huge smile and said " wow thanks, that's very nice of you." That was six months ago and now when I & the family go in to eat the whole staff is very friendly & most call me by my name. One bonus is the counter guy now OC's when he's not a work. When I asked what got him started OCing he said " I just never really thought about it until I saw you OCing in here." :D

On topic - OCed at the airport today (non secure area) no issues.

It seems all it takes is a little kindness to get people seeing that you are really a nice person and not some hard case looking for trouble.

And those who legally open carry are once again shown to be the "good guys" simply by being................ the "good guys".

Now... don't tell me what the weather is like out there in Arizona my friend... it will ruin my frozen arsed day here in Michigan!!!:D

I was not going to rub it in but it's been sunny and in the mid 70's - however we are in for a "winter storm" this weekend - cloudy with a 30% chance of rain & high's in the low 60's ...oh the humanity...:p

Good reports there, Misters Bikenut & FreeInArizona ~

That's a neat way of being kind and neighborly to others.

I miss Arizona. Much enjoyed the nice weather during training evolutions throughout that beautiful state, i.e., Gunsite near Prescott. Lt. Col. Jeff Cooper was one of our instructors for a week-long "Special Carbine Training Course" in 1988. What a hoot that fella' was. Enjoyed high altitude military parachuting with Team-mates near the Tuscon area. As toasty warm as it was on the ground during the day it got wicked cold at 25,000' AGL, particularly on the night jumps!

Take heart, Michigander's: fifteen (15) days 'till Spring! Even so, I hope to get another winter camp-out with family members soon....armed with a nice -20 F. sleeping bag, that is! : )

On Topic: open-carried at Wally World in Houghton Lake recently. Got some work done on my vehicle and all the folks there were helpful and friendly. While picking up groceries at the Save-a-Lot a guy who was shopping there thanked me for carrying openly.

Take care y'all...

Respectfully,
Billy

Sprint stores

I was just in the Sprint store in the VG's plaza on Court st. (by Home Depot) in Burton and noticed the gun buster sign is gone. I was only paying my bill there and it was very busy so I didn't wait around to ask if policy had changed. Anyone else notice any other locations have removed their signs? If I get the chance I will inquire about it later when they are less busy.

Steel Magnolia & I OCed the Michigan Gun Owners' meet & greet at the Pizza Hut on Byron Center in Wyoming, MI. Met a lot of new folks, answered a lot of questions on OCing. It was pretty well attended; probably 30ish or more.

Open carried at the Clark gas station, Jimmy John's, and Chow Hound pet store in Standale the past couple days; no issues or anything out of the ordinary.
