You have a "hard time believing" what you believe? Butt what do think, I'm making it up or something?

Here's the email exchange from Louise McDermott.

From Louise McDermott (Louise.McDermott@ct.gov)

"Tim,
Your pistol permit request was processed and sent via regular mail on 6/6/14; the results were also e-mailed on 6/17/14. The Newington PD has your state/federal results and any other determination would be done by the NPD; I suggest that you contact them as to the status of your pistol permit application.

Should you have any questions or require any additional information, please do not hesitate contact us.

Thank you.
Louise

Then, I called Newington PD and she said what I stated she said in my post. My sister is a cop and she said it varies widely, from town to town, time to time, etc. She said people have gotten permits in 2 to 3 weeks, and others it's take many months. All I can go by is my experience, which is stated right here.

No no no, I'm not saying I don't believe you, my apologies I assumed you saw my post from above. When I called the Wethersfield PD yesterday, the guy told me 3-6 months which is what I'm having a hard time believing, especially after hearing how quick you got yours and we are only a town over from each other.

Gotcha, Pmig....I reacted a little too quick to that post, so sorry. No offense intended, and I get your frustration. This whole process is a big pain in the ass, which I think that certain people want it to be that way. The more of a hassle it is, the less likely people want to go through it. It won't stop us who really want to just follow the law an be decent people that want to buy and use firearms, like myself and all of those I know, including many family members.
Good luck!

Sounds like you guys in CT need to work with your CDL to get a law in place like we have here in VA, here your permit MUST be either granted or denied within 45 days from receipt, if its not than your application receipt becomes a "de-facto" permit to conceal until your permit application is approved or denied. Keeps the PD's on their toes!

Two quick Questions...

Once you get a temp permit and you bring ti to the state and do the picture and pay the cost of the state permit, do you get the permit THEN, like you'd get a driver's license (on the spot, in other words), or do they mail it to you. Also, if they mail it, how anyone have an idea of how long it takes? It doesn't seem to make sense to mail it, since all is really done at that point and making the permit itself is simple as hell. Also, I am assuming you cannot purchase ammo or anything of the sort UNTIL you physically have the card IN YOUR HAND, correct? I know some of this sounds silly, but I am just thinking about it. Thanks

You get it on the spot. Just go do it the same day you get the temp.

Good. My plan is, the moment I get that temp, I literally will stop everything I am doing, make sure they are open for business, and literally am marching there the moment I get the temp and that's that.

It will happen as quickly as I can do it. Period. The only reason I had to do this again is that when I was in graduate school, and broke up with a girlfriend. One of her "problems" was that she basically never gave me mail that showed up there after I moved out, the bitch. Well, suffice it to say that I was busy, was foolish and disorganized, and basically let it lapse because I wasn't on top of it. Now, a kid later, and a renewed love for shooting which was more like "hunting" growing up, which I don't do but am considering certain "types" of hunting from time to time. I just grew up in a family that had a gun case in most households of both family and friends, and lived out in the country where we all had guns and we all were good, decent, law-abiding people who just wanted to live the lifestyle, which is great if you respect it and take it deadly-serious. Many, many in my family also served in WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan, so we were and are very much a military family who embraces out 2nd amendment rights (and ALL of them, for that matter;)

Anyway, thanks again.

tim

Thanks for your help. I am excited because I've been wanting to do this forever. I started shooting when I was a kid, and have been buying mostly rifles for years, which I love to shoot. Having said that, I also have a Colt Stainless Officer's Model .45, a Glock 17, and a Browning Hi-Power, and A S&W .40 cal., all which I want to get out and shooting.

Even better: eliminate the need for permission slips. I don't recognize their need anyway.

But such a process should have an administrative issuance at some point in time...

Hey Snatale ... how many de facto permits are issued in your state?

5 weeks from start to finish. Got my town permit here in Newington at noon, went to Middletown, stood in line for an hour, and got my state permit. Good to go...!

I'll try to get some numbers, I remember about a year ago our gun org VCDL did a write up on it due to them filing a writ of madamus (I think that's correct) in a few jurisdictions which is when you request the state superior court to force public servants to do their job. I remember the cities on the list were the typical anti ones here (ghetto, gang issues etc) you know, the place were you REALLY need a gun. Luckily for me my county is pretty efficient at handing out permits and wasn't douchey about it. Although the cop fingerprinting me didn't seem to happy about it LOL. Of well, the fingerprinting req was thrown out since then so that's good for the future people, they can apply by mail now! No more uncomfortable Police station visits, there's half the experience right there haha!

My wife and I both applied for our pistol permits on Tues May 13,2014 in Waterbury Ct. The clerk stated that it would be a 5 to 6 month wait. when and how should we file an appeal? Any help will be appreciated.

Any update...did you get your permit?

Spoke with Louise at the SPBI never received my livescan prints....awesome.....and Putnam PD never checked to see if they were rejected by the machine. Waiting to hear if we need to be reprinted. 8 weeks gone and now may have to restart....

Don't believe everything DESPP tells you, they are known liars.

Good to know. According to Louise who looked into it they don't have either my prints or my wife's prints. She also said there wasn't any billing to Putnam in June or July. Just frustrating if this is true that things have sat there for 8 weeks plus.

Fingerprints are required by law to be sent to SPBI within 5 days of application.
