How do you justify OC?

Read the thread and didn't note anyone posting this point:

If asked, "How do you justify openly carrying a firearm?" I have responded, "How do you justify asking me a question?"

The usual response is something about freedom of speech, to which I reply, "You can ask me why I carry a gun because of the First Amendment. I can carry a gun because of the Second Amendment. Is there some sort of hierarchy among the Bill of Rights amendments that only you know about?"

"Because it is my Right to have a reasonable means to defend myself, my loved ones, and our Freedoms", and "Because I can".

No hierarchy. As Eye95 so eloquently put, no Right "trumps" another Right, as no two Rights can ever be in conflict unless one of those is not actually a Right.
This answer of course, is assuming you are not a troll, and is for the benefit of future readers, though there already exist various threads dealing with the very subject of your inquiry.
I say troll because we seem to get a lot of them around here, especially after a tragedy that the statists and gun-grabbers despicably use to push there agenda (can anyone say Obama/Biden/Holder/Jackson/Feinstein/Brady/etc.?).

It was pretty damned cold that day, and I have it on good authority that this gentleman was comfortable and warm. I will leave the judgment on weird to you:

Now that I think I can do.

1. Doesn't look too funny or out-of-place (except for that cap; maybe a horned Viking helmet?)
2. That jacket sure looks warm, and I usually wear an extra layer in the pants category to keep from freezing anything vital, if you catch my drift.
3. Looks like some winter clothing I already own (similar style, different colors, but still)
4. By his smile, I guess he is not very uncomfortable

@MAC702: I think this would fit both our checklists for fashion, practicality, cost, and comfort. :)

Looks like garb that's in my closet.

Just my opinion, but those gloves look a bit thick to work inside of a trigger guard efficiently.

They would be. But that problem would be independent of OC/CC. On a day as cold as that one, removal of the glove would be the first step in any self-defense attempt.

He has jersey cotton gloves on, unless he has fat fingers there really is no problem getting the finger in the 1911 trigger guard. I use Jersey gloves all the time, for hunting and for shooting.

One has to wonder why you are here. You don't open carry, and do spend most of your energy as a new member defending a mob of thug motorcyclists who terrorized a family to the point that they were justified in using deadly force to try to defend themselves.

So, you don't believe in OC. You don't believe in imminent mortal danger justifying deadly force in self-defence. You do think that the actions of most of the MOB of motorcyclists was not criminal.

It seems more and more like your presence here is almost totally due to a desire to defend the actions of the MOB of motorcyclists.

You feel the need to convince us that you were not a part of that MOB before any wonders if you were.

When someone finally raises that accusation, I think, "No way."

Now that you reveal that a desire to OC cannot possibly be your reason for being here, I retract that thought.

My antennae are up, but I am moving on for now.

Just curious, with almost 12,000 posts, do you ever get the chance to go outside and open carry ?

Coming back last month from Chicago thru Gary Indiana, I needed gas and the pump didn't give my receipt so I had to go inside for it. There was a Gary PD SGT at the counter so I asked what she was carrying (40 Glock). We had a very amiable chat for about 40 minutes and during that time she noticed my IWB 1911 @ my 2 O'clock and wrinkled her forehead. She asked where I was from (Ohio) and suggested when I come thru this area that I CC. She went on to explain that some thugs case joints looking for OCs and if they decide to perp their crime, try to take out the OC'ers. All the while we were chatting, she nervously (or should I say, vigilantly) scanned the lobby area, (I was watching her 6, too. She had a nice 6, btw) explaining that places like this are targets for them - hit and run, being near the freeway.
I like to OC and when asked, I act as an ambassador for self defense (as Adam says - LOVE to school the sheep), asking if they have car insurance and if they wear their seat belt only when they expect to be in an accident. I describe my gun as my insurance which I hope to never have to use. They begin to understand, especially when I tell them that violence does not make an appointment and it is better to have insurance and never need it than not have....

So was she complaining about her work load being too heavy?; complaining that her PD wasn't doing its job?; complaining that the judges were too lenient?; or complaining that local OCs were poor shots?

Interesting. Since there is only one or maybe two news/crime reports per year, maybe, of an open carrying Joe Citizen having their gun stolen from them, seems like the thugs are not very successful in their rampant attempts at targeting those openly carrying.

I didn't think there was even that many.

Don't have to Justify

I don't .......and will not justify my Second Amendment rights.......

I CC when I want to and OC when I want to.......depends on the weather and the clothing.......

i OC because it takes less time to draw from an OC holster than a CC holster. while the criminal has to lift his shirt up and grab his gun to draw, all i need to do is reach down and draw. tactical advantage

I open carry because I am only 20 and the legal age to CC in New Mexico is 21.

I was in a home invasion about 4 months ago where I saw a good friend get shot and killed about 7 feet away from me while me and my friends were hog-tied on the ground in duct-tape and all tripping on around 3 grams of psylocybin mushrooms each. My legally owned Beretta 92fs was about 4 states away at the time and we were caught off guard, visiting the insides of our minds and completely defenseless.

I'm just not about to be the victim next time some punk wants to play games. I will keep the local coroner in business if the situation dictates.

I might just continue to OC when I am of age for the comfort aspects of it.

For what it's worth, I carry a 1979 German State Police trade-in, single stack Sig P6 chambered in 9mm. I carry it in cross draw setup on my left hip in it's original BundesPolizei double (or single if preferred) snap holster.

-Regards
