Caped Crusader attacks vehicle with three foot sword

What a quiet neighborhood. No comments since last Nov.

Well OC in Whatcom County is alive and doing quite well. I participated in my Sweet Baboos yard sale last weekend as did SVG. We had a few(very few) comments about the weapons and it was all positive. One gentleman mentioned he had seen me carrying around the city and was pleased with it.

Now to the meat of this message.
I was out with my Lady looking for a last minute gift for my youngests birthday. We came out of Fred Myers on Bakerview. I noticed a young man about 1500 yards away on the far side of Bakerview. I would have gone on with my life if I had not noticed that he was wearing a ground length purple cape with hood. Sill, this is not that odd for B'ham, the City of Subdued Excitement. I mentioned it to my Sweet Baboo and we observed his as we left the lot. We did notice that he was carrying a three foot sword. Now I support OC, but his blade was not holstered. (brandishing?) As we passed the JackintheBox, we saw him attack a vehicle with the sword. Who would of thought?

Lori did 911 and I bailed the vehicle to follow him. There were a few people on the sidewalk before him and I did not want to see anyone injured. Lori told 911 that I was following him, that I was armed, and that I would not engage him. I stayed about fifty feet behind him and just watched. He never noticed me or looked back. He was approaching a bus stop where a little old lady was waiting. He seemed to get more agitated as he approached her. Luckily, a bus stopped and picked her up just before he got to her.

An unmarked, but obvious, squad came by and took an observation position. 911 called Lori back and asked me to disengage, and I did.

If you were placed in this position, What would you do?

Just like you did, observe and report. Not a direct threat to self/baboo's/bystanders, do not engage. We are not the police, and not responsible for the whole world.

I'd probably miss the whole thing. I'm a touch nearsighted even with my glasses on, and 1500 yards is almost a mile away.

Truth be told cutlery scares me more than firearms.

Same here. I use a broadsword as my home defense weapon of choice -- at any range you'd expect a sawed-off shotgun to be useful, a sword (in the hands of a trained swordsman) will beat a pistol 3 or 4 out of 5 times. People who aren't trained swordsmen almost always underestimate how far you can lunge with a sword by a large margin.

Must be a short blade. It is a bit difficult to swing a long piece of steel around in a room with eight foot ceilings. I, personally, will stick with the Pistol.

Went down south to see a motorcycle swap meet at Skagit Fairgrounds. We arrived on motorcycles to find out......it is next saturday. So, we went to a bike shop in Mt Vernon and saw a big group of trick riders putting on a show. Cool.
Point is I was, as usual, well armed and no one mentioned or commented on the pistol. It was recognized and ignored.

Sweet Baboo and I joined with SVG and his Sweety for a bike ride around the sound on Sunday. Met up with Boomboy and his significant other for a meal at Extremes Sports Grill and Pizzaria, out on Meridian, in Bellingham. We had been there for quite a while and were almost done with our meal when we were approached by management about the weapons. It seems the owner was not understanding the RCW. He was under the impression that if alcohol was served at a table, weapons were not permitted. Several of us attempted to politely inform him of the correct application of the law, but he insisted he was not a lawyer and would call police. Boomboy offered a brochure, with the RCW quoted, but he refused to touch it.
The owner did call the police and he told us that he would let them explain it to us. A bit later he came by and told us that the Pee Dee did not merit this for actual police presence because what we were doing was legal. So, we were "good" and he felt more comfortable.

Meal was good, fellowship was great, the incident was irritating but tolerable.

Very good to read that the police understood the law and didn't come anyways to harass you all for kicks and giggles.

Yes, as long as you are not in an area restricted to people over 21 only. If your kids can sit at the table with you, you are OK.

Good to know, thanks.

If you visit Idaho you can drink alcohol while open carrying in a area restricted to 21 and over. I have done this many times and even conversed with a Idaho firearms attorney about this at an open carry dinner. Just don't do it while carrying concealed. Our legislators have regulatory control over concealed, but not open carry.

OC, the Washington legislature considers all firearms to be "minors". If the kids cannot get in, my/your pistol cannot get in either. Puts a different light on the term "Young Guns".
