** Donation Match Offered **

A very generous individual has offered to match the next $500 in donations dollar for dollar - whether donations are mailed directly to Ms. Hogan (preferably, because GoFundMe charges ~10% in fees), or made through GoFundMe.

Because of this match offer, the next $500 in donations will actually result in $1,000 of donations.

Donations can be sent to Ms. Hogan made out to "Jane C. Hogan, IOLTA Trust". Please put "Jeffry Smith" or "St. Louis Zoo" in the memo. Her address is 5216 Chippewa Street, St. Louis, MO 63109.

Alternatively, you can contribute via GoFundMe at this address:

THANK YOU.

Request to Video Tape Hearings...

When I initially called, I was told they wouldn't allow that, but by law, I can ask and the Judge can consider it.

The Clerk said no, but then referred me to the PIO of the court. (Thomas Gross)

thom.gross@courts.mo.gov

Hi guys,

Just fyi, I've made a request to see if we can Video tape the hearings.

Here's a copy of what I sent in,

Hi,

I'd like to make a request to video tape court hearings in case 1522-CC09876 Under Missouri Court Rule 16.

Judge MORIARTY is the presiding judge.

This case deals with Jeff Smith and the St. Louis Zoo and see this as great public interest and would like to ask permission to bring a camera into the her courtroom and ask for the courts permission.

Please see Missouri Court Rule 16

If you have any questions, please let me know,

Regards,

Mike Rekart

It's not a problem.

As my attorney said, and others can more freely comment on, "... Jane Hogan, says all of the zoo's arguments "are a real big stretch of fact" and that it was the zoo, by seeking the injunction against Smith, that "turned it into this big media circus."

<waste of bandwidth>
McBeth,

This is a serious thread about a serious, and now legal matter. Rights are being litigated, monies are being solicited and spent, and information is being gathered and disseminated.

Your distractions and non-contributory posts are hardly helpful - as per usual.

Why don't you take your waste of bandwidth show elsewhere?

Cleaned up the thread - off topic posts gone now.

Further derailments will be met with considerably more direct means - trust that will not be necessary.

A contributor has made an anonymous $200 donation via GoFundMe, leaving $300 remaining to be matched.

I've sent a thank you note to the individual and would like to again thank that person as well as the individual who offered to match contributions.

No it doesn't. Seems more like street corner begging by a guy who picked a fight he could not financially afford.

That's my two cents.

Think he and we fully expected the zoo to correct the problem long before this. If anyone is guilty of escalating and exacerbating the situation, it is again the zoo.

Note that he did not charge in open defiance with a team of long gun totin' friends and try to rub everyone's nose in it. He proceeded patiently and in good faith.

That he is asking for funds is hardly surprising - who among us could carry such a load alone?

I not only support his position but have given what I could to the effort AND encourage others to do likewise.

A smart guy.... packs his parachute BEFORE he jumps.

That's catchy. Worst analogy I've seen in a long time, but nice try.

This is a fight standing up against the government, setting precedent to protect everyone's rights. A fight he could easily walk away from and everyone could just fend for themselves. We'll see how well your parachute is packed when the full weight of the government is allowed to pick off individual rights one at a time.

Even if "his parachute was fully packed" ahead of time, there'd still be no reason to expect him to shoulder the financial burden of this fight alone.

Glad donations are picking up. My wife and I meet you for the first time just recently in Jeff City at the Supreme Court on the hearing about Article 1 Section 23 of our states's Constitution and it's meaning as far as non-violent felons is concerned. You drove all the way from Ohio, sleeping in your car to get the rest you needed to complete the trip. I was very impressed in your commitment to our 2nd Amendment rights, not only in Missouri but in your state of Ohio as well.

Unlike some in any organization or now in this day and age, a forum...you are willing to stand your ground and stand up for your principles.
Did I agree with everything you did up to and including the Zoo event, you know that I didn't and I told you so, in fact I remember getting into a couple of "discussions". But I also told you that because of no fault of your own you were forced into this battle without having the necessary time to lay out a proper strategy. And that is the reason I put my money where my mouth is and helped in anyway I could during the early stages of this event.

It is unfortunate on a forum that should encourage your activities, they chastise you for standing up for "our" rights. But that is the nature of the breast, as they say. I too was chastised on this very forum for going into to a Columbia gun shop that does not support my right to open carry a firearm in the city limits of Columbia and voiced my opinion to them making a living off of the 2nd Amendment and not supporting it. As a result of the bad mouthing I received, I blocked and continue to block some folks on here.

The amount of time you have given and the money you have "put in the pot", would be shocking to some on here, so I will say thank-you for those that fail to see the importance of your "our" fight.

Thank-you again and may we all benefit from your efforts.

Bob and Vivian Yelkin.

Judge Denied request to Video record hearing

HI guys,

I just got word that Judge Mioriarty has declined a video camera to be in the courtroom. The PIO advised me that she's "never" allowed a camera in her court room which makes me sad to hear, but there we have it.

Mike,
Judge Moriarty declined. FYI, she has never approved a video request. Of
course, you are welcome to attend without a camera.

IF 1) you had actually read and digested the contents of this thread, and 2) IF your comments were made out of a sense of altruism, I think your attitude would be very different. Then again, what appears to be your blind personal disdain might have prevented you from doing either.

The fight I "picked" with the Zoo involved being willing to be cited for trespass - AFTER a good deal of communication and law cites were sent to various parties. The legal foundation was sound. See posts 1-17.

The fight I chose involves fighting the TRO directly and counterclaiming that the Zoo doesn't have the legal right to ban firearms from its premises - a choice that was made following a great deal of research, encouragement, and offers of financial assistance.

See post #18, and what followed immediately after. From post #18: "...This fight isn't just about me, it's about whether Amendment 5/Article 1, Section 23 means anything whether a governmental entity can get away with calling itself what it wants to suit the biases of those in charge, etc. The TRO is absurdly broad." (bold and underline not in original)

As I said in post #63 of this thread: "...It's been a difficult and wild ride getting to this point. I know the cause is worthwhile, I believe the Zoo's claims are about as substantial as those of the Texas zoos, and I'm confident in Ms. Hogan. This endeavor is not about whether a guy from Ohio can carry in the St. Louis Zoo: although the Zoo's claims affect mainly Missourians, it's yet another example of governmental overreach in matters of gun rights.

Our collective rights are only worth what we're willing to fight for, sometime with our presence, sometimes with our calls and letters, and sometimes with our money. I've put up a decent chunk of change in to get Ms. Hogan on board, but again, this matter is only tangentially about me. I can't shoulder the entire financial burden by myself, even though I'd like to. So, to say it bluntly, Missourians and others have the opportunity to "put up or shut up"."

IF you can get past whatever it is you are blinded by, we can certainly have respectful conversation, or even vigorous disagreement. If not, this will be the last thing I have to say to you on this thread.
